take a digi pic, go to paint brush/photoshop, whatever and draw an arrow to exactly what you're talking about then post. Then we'll be able to tell you exactly what they are.

take them off, throw them like a frisbee as far as you can...resume riding..
If you remove your "windage plates" you will increase belt life, lower clutch temperature, and possiblly loose 1MPH on top end......

Mine are in my tool box..........

If it's the metal shield, yeah; take it off and don't look back. (Cooler clutches, longer belt life vs maybe 1 mph off top end, as mentioned by another.)

I have an RT1000. Are those on my secondary too? If so, please give a description of what they look like.

Windage plates cover the cooling ribs on the secondary. They allow for less air resistance and slightly more top end on flatlander sleds. They do NOT come on Summit sleds because they benefit more from the added cooling when riding in SNOW (as do 99% of most selds). They are attached by 6 bolts on either side of the secondary - if you just have bolt holes then your sled didn't come with them.

Toss em,

I think everyone is doing this............. my 1000 Summit HMX didnt even have them on from the factory!
Speaking of added clutch weight, I was looking on the back of the Primary on my RT and there is this gear that doesnt' actually run off of another gear. Is that for cooling? Can it be removed? If it is removed would it need a spacer? Would that throw off the balance if you can take it off?

It's a ring gear for running electric start.

Have FUN!

On the RT 1000 the ring gear is also for balance so the option of removal is elimanated just in case you were thinking otherwise.
