'95 670 Summit Problem

Hello all,
One of the riders in our group has a 95 Summit 670. It has less than 2000 miles and is in teriffic shape except for one thing.....It keeps overheating. When we first bought this sled we made it about 1/4 mile from the truck when the temp light came on and the sled started bogging. We shut it down immediately, and coolant started bubbling out. The local dealer suggested cutting out the thermostat. Next trip out, same thing. Removed head and replaced O-rings, gaskets, etc, after hearing that cylinder pressure could be leaking into cooling system. We also checked water pump and it is operating normally. Carbs have been kept very clean.
Does anyone know of any characteristics of this particular sled that might explain the continued overheating?? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I would remove the thermostat, but make sure to put the o-ring from the stat back in to seal the connection. also make sure you bleed the ait out of the system once it's running.

You may want to look in the back up under seat to see if the cross over tube in the back has a kink or a fold in the rubber tube. A friend had an issue like this. Although he could ride for a few miles before it would get hot. And he had bought it used and someone had put a "new" tube on it that was to long and restricted flow. After he cut the lenth down a little it was fine. Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies......

I will check the cross-over this week. We've already removed the thermostat and flushed/purged the entire system. The sled will idle great for long periods of time, and if you remove the coolant cap, you can see coolant flowing swiftly. I felt the exchangers, and they are getting warm as well. It's only when I try to ride it does it overheat. Perhaps it's jetted wrong??

does it have the HAC (High Altitiude Compensator)? that could be clogged or not working right? Unfortuatly i've now told you all i know of the device.

Not sure if the HACs are clean........Any ideas on how the HAC would cause overheating??
Here are a few thing's to try, First check your antifreeze water ratio. if you have to much antifreeze it will run hot. sounds dumb but true. Second do you have reverse on it? If you do or if you have a short snow flap it will shoot the snow out the back and not up into the heat exchangers and will over heat in 1/4 mile or less. Again sound's dumb but true.
Actually, my buddy said that the snowflap kept getting sucked up over the track......Any ideas for a fix??New snowflap or wire brace thingy??
Try this for the flap:
PN#: 572108200
it is from a mxz440x. it goes under your snowflap and uses the same rivet holes.

Make sure the air is purged from the exchangers fully. You will need the front of the sled a foot higher than the rear, start it and run for a minute to help purge the air trapped in the exchangers.
Water Pump OK?
Yep, the water pump is in great shape and if you look into the coolant resevoir, coolant is moving along at a good clip. Has anyone used Engine Ice?? I guess it's a coolant that's supposed to make your bike/sled/car run 50 degrees cooler.
yup used liquid cool engine ice all that stuff before on race car's and it does help not sure on a sled. A new flap would probly help. it should drag on the ground like a 440x does.
