Just thought I'd throw this out there, does anyone know if there is a setup difference between these two years, as in Rotary valves, carb jetting, needle heights etc.? I have the '96 shop manual and have baselined the carbs as per the '96 manual. I did find on here somewhere that the 94 STX along with the Summit of that year recommended the spark plugs be gapped at 0.016" as opposed to 0.018" for most models.

Just looking for any info I can get, This is my buddies sled and he is interested in longevity and trail performance. Well as much trail performance as you can get with an F2000 chassis with a C7 . . .

Thanks in advance guys!

I'm sorry. I'm having a hard time getting this to work today.

94 specs are the same except the 94 uses a "504" rotary valve and the carb specs are different. 94 carb specs:
Main. P340. M350
Needle jet. 480 P-6
Jet needle. 6DHN43
Pilot 35
Air screw 1 turn

Clutching is the same.

Spark plug Gap is .018 for both.

I bought a 94 STX brand new back in the day. It fouled spark plugs like crazy and got horrible fuel mileage. I took it back to the dealer and they dropped the needles one notch (raised clips) and they also changed out the rotary valve. I thought they put a Formula Z rotary valve in it going from memory but looking at my 1994 manual the two motors seem to have the same rotary valve timing so I am not postive which rotary valve they used.. Anyway the sled was MUCH improved afterwards. NO more fouling issues and gas mileage was much better as well. I was in a few fun drag races against formua Zs and I was quicker off the line till about 75-80mph and then they would slowly reel me in. My father bought a 1995 STX and they must have changed the carb specs as he had no issues with his at all.
