How much of a difference in the trails? Bought a 1200 etec years ago and found it to be a plow horse vs 600 etec. TIA!

This year I went from a 600R to an 850 after many years on a 600. As stated riding at lower speeds it's pretty similar 0 to 50 but a huge difference after 50 .A 850 can get up to 80 in a heartbeat definitely NOT for the inexperienced rider. I really like the extra power for all the hill's that I ride here in Vermont and find the power band very useable .Does it make me a faster rider ? not really I still ride within my comfort zone. I do enjoy the extra power and powerful the 850 is !!!

I have ridden 850 and 600R sleds and for me, there is a certain amount of extra work to keep the 850 power under control in the tight, twisty trails. The power is incredible, as someone else has stated, going from 40/50 to 80mph happens in a second...absolutely incredible and fun power! I think the 600-class sled fits my riding style and normal riding trails better, but I am re-thinking the idea of selling my 850. I may end up having both!

Agree with comments above. For tight-twisty trails, the 850 can be annoying. It wants to go when you hit the throttle, where the 600 seems more manageable on that lower end (50% throttle and below). You can even notice a pretty big difference when loading the 600 into a trailer, it takes a considerable amount of power to move it in where the 850 is almost effortless. The 600 is a great engine if you don’t have any open stretch’s greater than 1/3 mile or don’t ride much above 75-80.

We have a 2023 850 XRS Renegade as well as a 2023 600R X Renegade. My wife and I are fairly aggressive riders.

Both of these are great sleds. Both are great engines. As many have stated, the 850 is very impressive power wise but can be a handful for many on tight, twisty trails. We ride in the Northwoods of Wisconsin (very tight, twisty) and I think the 600R is just as fast and easier to ride at speed on these trails. Once we head into the UP of Michigan where the trails are straighter and wider, the 850 really excels.

I think the answer to your question depends on the type of rider you are and the type of trails you ride. I can say that after roughly 3k miles this season on my first 850, I have concluded that for my riding style and our trail system, the 600R is plenty of sled for me.

Additional note : what is amazing to me about the 850 is the power it generates without gas or oil consumption penalties. Again we ride tight trails so there are very few long high speed pulls but my 850 sips oil and gas. Both engines (850 / 600R) consume the same amount of oil and gas when run the same way on the same trails.

Agreed. However I do notice the 11ish extra lbs over the front on slower twister trails. About then only downfall. Fuel consumption is only slightly more than mine or my wife's 600r.
