I have a new to me 2018 MXZ 850 with 3200 miles , just pulled the hood off to install the aux light and noticed the front of the motor is wet in oil. Looks like the rave valves, is this an issue with these engines and what is involved in getting it to stop leaking? Local dealer told me they all leak but I’m not sure if ignoring this will create a larger issue. Thank for advise

There was a recall for this. New seals are needed. Dealer did mine for free.

So your dealer is passing the buck because he's too lazy to fix the issue under warranty?

There is a service bulletin for them.

I have an 18 850. I bought it with 2300 miles and no leaking, at 3200 they were leaking. Dealer installed updated seals under BEST. If I didn't have warranty I'd put them in myself. Manual says you're supposed to check the calibration of them with Buds but there's those out there that say it isn't really necessary.

Changing the seals is a lot easier than it looks. Too me about two hours on my 2018. Took my sled to my dealer with hood off on the trailer. Mechanic brought the laptop out the trailer and did the sync in literally 10 minutes. They charged me $20 bucks.

Yeah, I would have done mine (I hate bringing it in) but for the price of the seals, the gasket, tax, and shipping, it was so close to the $50 deductible I figured I'd let them do it.

I had my sled in to dealer for the second time last spring to get these changed. I question if the first dealer even changed them cuz first ride they were leaking again and it really sucks cuz it gets an oily film on the clutches which can't be good for slippage and on top of that when ever u touch anything in that compartment ur hands and everything become black! Told that dealer that they didn't fix the problem and they told me id have to pay another 50 deductible for them to do it again so I went to a different dealer and he knew all about the updated seal so I gave them my $50 bucks instead. Fingers crossed I hope its fixed!

Do they all eventually leak? Has anyone with a 17 & 18 not replace the seals. Reason I ask, is my 18 has 2800 miles no leak, should I push the dealer to replace the seals now?
It's hard to say if they'll all leak eventually, I'm convinced that many are leaking and the owners don't know it. It's not easy to see unless you're looking for it or you have the hood off. I would doubt the dealer will change them under warranty unless they are actually leaking. I saw mine were leaking before my last 400+ mile saddlebag trip of the year and had no issues, just makes a bit of a mess. I didn't see that oil got on my clutches at all but then again it wasn't leaking much.

Ok so I’m changing them out myself, our local deal doesn’t really work on sleds (mostly atv’s and dirt bikes). They’ve never so done this job before and I’m more attentive to detail than most. I’m going to go even further to purchase my own candoo pro to calibrate and clear other codes. I’ll give you my thoughts when it’s done.

My dealer just put these aftermarket seals in my sled.

They claimed it's a better seal.
We'll see how they hold up.
Really? An aftermarket seal is in the mix too huh? I guess I haven't heard of people having issues with the newest seal? Have there been reports of the deal with the dot on it failing?
