8 Point Buck I shot this morning

Here is the 8 point buck I shot at 8:05 AM this morning. It only went about 50 yards so it was REALLY easy to track it with two holes in its neck. Not sure what it weighed though as the meat market guy hasn't weighed it yet. Biggest buck I've shot so far in the 17 years that I've hunted, and all 3 of my bucks have been with a bow too. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get this one head mounted.

Henry's first look at a nice buck. I know it won't be his last! I got him a RealTree Camo outfit already!

You the MAN!

I've never bow hunted. Must take a lot of skill to be quiet enough to get close enough to deliver a deadly shot. What's the range of a bow? And what are you going to do with the deer? Hamberger?, Steak?, Jerky? or a little of everything? My dad makes hamber out of them and has someone else turn it into german sausage and smokies.
Congrats Steve.

I bow hunt up in a tree, about 20 feet up, and my bow has a range of around 30 yards, even though I don't normally shoot over 20 yards. This buck was about 20 yards away and I swear he could have heard my heart racing! We are getting 10 lbs of jerky, about 8 lbs of summer sausage, 10 lbs of breakfast sausage, the tenderloin steaks, and the rest ground into hamburger. If we get other deer, those will mostly be made into hamburger and a few steaks.

Thanks guys.

Nice one for Bow hunting. Went to moose hunting camp last week, we got one the first morning (Sunday) after pulling in camp Saturday afternoon and sleeping in that day. We had to stay for a few days after that to lighten the coolers for the trip out.

Deer has been open for a while now, but we wait until the Rut, unless we see a huge buck. Only about three or four weeks away when it starts here.
Nice job Steve. Congrats. I'm heading out this afternoon to meet my gang on our properties that we manage. Hope we have some luck as well. I got a doe on the first day...now I'm lookin for horns.

Here's a teaser video of a buck we saw at the end of August, before hunting started for us. He is close to the size of the ones we have gotten the last few years. Deer_on_Lease.wmv

Enjoy
