The display freezes, but the mileage counters keep going in the background. When you restart the sled, the gauge shows the correct mileage.
True, but the mileage is stored in the gauge. Replace the gauge and the new gauge starts at zero.

Are you sure? Cause I got conflicting info. Dealer that was trying to fix the 2019 gauge said they could add them back with buds on the newer sleds.
That's what I was told.

I'll be able to confirm it as soon as I get my new gauge installed - and it's in. We headed to Arizona before I could get my sled in, we'll be back next week.

I honestly hope they can. I'd rather have it be accurate.

From SKIDOOCHRIS...
the 7.2 is known to lock up from RF interference.
if your using a communicator it may be your issue
if no RF then you may have a junk cluster
Wonder if bunch of 7.2 clusters shipped from mfg without the terminator.....
In Canbus world each end must hold a 120 Ohm terminator (resistor) so to prevent signal reflection among other thing. Because Can devices can be in-between the line, termination is a simple jumper you place in or remove depending its placement on the bus. Most are accessible outside, worst case on the pc board. On 128kb and 256 bus speed we barely care, but at 512kb (our case here) this matter a lot. Receiving garbage is lot worst than receiving nothing.
Good way to test is a simple Ohm meter between pin 1 & 2 of the diagnostic port. 60 Ohm your line is OK with one 120 on each end. 120, then one is missing. In this case you subject to interferences. RF interferences is quadrupled each time the source is closer by 2. Note that a switching power supply to feed a LED headlight sit at 4 inch from one end of your Can comm bus.... should your have those.

I just got back from a snowmobile trip & my cluster froze up, only happened once in cold weather -14 C ( 6.8 F ) & riding in heavy snow dust. If you read some of my previous posts I thought mine was fixed, but obvious it's not.

Grrrr !

I was told the ECU stores hours, the gauge itself stores the miles.

Turbo Doos post above seems to confirm that was well.

My gauge was replaced today...

I can confirm I'm now showing zero miles.

I can also confirm it DID NOT fix the missing Sport+ on the display. It's doing exactly what it was doing before.

I won't know if it had any effect on the locking up until I get it out again. Being mid-March and rain in the forecast tomorrow who knows when I'll get another chance to ride. Maybe early next week.

Does your gauges believe it's an UTV/ATV sometimes when it freeze/crash?
Mine does, most of the Times it just freezes but sometimes it really crash.
I was stationary when I took the pic.
I turned the sled of started the gauge and thought i would set the clock, every time it freeze makes the clock to freeze also so it was ~30min behind, and it froze again.
For me the gauge works better cold, the warmer weather and longer i drive the problem gets worse.
My dealer have not got back to me regarding the problem, here in Sweden BRP put the head in the sand and pretend it's not their fault.

You live in the right spot and should get another opportunity to test Sunday.

We just got back from Quebec. Great spring sledding. The new gauge froze as well. I called the dealer the day it happened. They said to call when I got home. I called on the way back from the trip today. They asked if I could drop in today so they could take another buds file to send in. When I arrived they said they were glad I came in today cause my warranty expires tomorrow. I let that slide. and asked what they were going to do to fix this. I reminded them that the ongoing issue started under the factory warranty period(remained uncured), continued under the extended warranty, and is still uncured.
They said as of now there is no known fix. I pointed out to the tech that after 2 days of riding(12 hrs total), the sled shows 497km of use. A top speed of 87 kph, and an average of 4 kph. I said do you see the problem with that?

My dealer has a picture of it locked and a video of mine not working so there is now a hard record of it.

They also said as an active case it's open until it's solved.

Probably a bad batch of hardware since it’s the same cluster as MY20/21/22, and it’s less likely software related as it happens on MY23 G4 and MY23G5. Part number is the same across all these years.
ECU stores hours. Gage stores distance traveled.

My 23 g5 7.2 went from freezing day one out of the crate a few times, to fine, to freezing again middle of this past week.

gonna be a lotta low mileage MY23’s next year showing 1 season worth of mileage when ridden two.

I recently had a 2019 in the dealer for guage related problem. The tech stated that they CAN put the stock miles back on the newer guages. The 2019 had the old skidoo guage from the Xp days so I could not.

So any of you with the 7.2 etc and up guages, the dealer can go through buds and put the proper miles on the new cluster.

The dealer I was at said he has done a ton of newer guage swaps, they never work. One sled had four guage swaps, and was there getting a fifth new one before Warranty was expired.

Also, keep in mind any time a dealer does a guage swap, once the vin is run with BRP it shows in the computer under the vin. So while you could sell a sled showing lower miles then it should, it wouldn’t be hard for you to be had after the sled visits a dealer again or someone runs the vin with Brp for service.

My ‘23 Expedition SE 900 gauge froze for the first time today with 130 miles on it.
I keep it in the garage and it froze as soon as I pulled it out and started idling it outside.
The temperature was probably 15 F outside but the sled was completely warm from the shop. No idea why it just started today.
I’ll be calling my dealer on Monday.
