Near as I can tell on the 600R I should be able to cruise at 60 and do upper mid-range roll-ons into the mid 70s versus my 850 which cruises at 70 and does roll-ons into the mid 80s.
Mine would cruise at 60 no problem. Started feel like it was working harder over 70. I don't think you're going to get a ton of pop if you're cruising over 60 mph and then roll on more power. It will climb but doesn't do it with authority at point. Based on memory, would say below 50 is where it's going to have pop but it's hard to say. Don't look at my gauge that much. Generally speaking , it cruises fine on long straights just fine but it's not going to be responsive like an 850. In the corners is where it has more authority. Just what it is.

BRP says the 600e/600r can get up to 21mpg. And the 900 can get slightly higher at up to 21.8 but in ECO mode.
My wife has seen as high as 25mpg U.S. out of her 2017 600 etec mxz tnt that she had.

Yep I believe it. I had a 120" once that would get around 25mpg if I cruised at an even 50mph. It had the deluxe gage so I could watch real-time MPG estimates. Opening it up to 60 or 70 would really kill the mileage but it's nice to know it has the range if you need it.

We all know there's just no comparing the new 850 to any sled with an engine size that starts with the number six. But how does the new 600R compare to the older 800s when it comes to seat of the pants feel or butt dyno? I'm talking sleds like the Rev 800 HO, or an XP with the P-Tek 800R or E-Tec 800. By chance does anybody still have an older 800 and a 600R for same day comparisons? I'm looking to reign in the speed a little bit but still have some meaty mid-range torque to enjoy. Thoughts?
Fun topic. I too have been wearing out the search feature, except reading about the 650 since I ordered one. Hopefully I'll be happy going from a Axys 800 to the 650.

I've owned every 600 class Ski Doo since my 89 Mach 1 583 including, 600 carb, 600 HO, 600 SDI, 600 ETEC and my son currently has a 19 600R. I've always found the 600 Doo's to be an awesome engine and having put 1000's on miles (most likely more than 20-25K miles) and never had a single issue. I sold the 600 ETec to my nephew and it has 15,000 KM's and never been apart. My son's 600r is by far the most impressive, I find it revs quick and pulls to

90+MPH real close to any 800 I've had or ridden with (top end it will run 100+MPH). Its a great engine / sled package, excellent on fuel, clutching is spot on from the factory, sips oil, no vibration at idle or when riding through the bars etc. I can't say enough good things about it, try it and I'll bet almost everyone will be impressed.

I heard a lot of good things about the 650. It's supposed to be a runner.

Hmmm, maybe I should stick with the 850. Can it at least cruise at 50 and roll on into the 60s with some authority? I just need to get some seat time and see for myself. On paper it should perform similar to my 04 Rev 800. I was all ready to go Backcountry for the lighter steering but changed my mind after getting some seat time last winter. Definitely need to try before I buy or just stick with the 850. I do like the sound of it " feeling " 50 lbs lighter in the tight stuff.

I was just reading about the 650 the other day over on HCS, seems to be a similar discussion. Did you go for the 7S display?

Yes, 129" VR1. I was hoping for a 650 test ride last winter but never got the chance.

Assume you have seen the race video Snowtrax did of the 600R vs the 650?

I thought your reason for wanting to go away from an 850 is interesting. I feel the same about not going 850. Love my 800 hit/torque but don't need more top end.

Yep, looked " somewhat " close to me but the 650 definitely had the edge. It sounds like they're both night & day stronger than past 600s.

I have hesitated a lot before ordering my Renegade X 600r, was really looking at a 650 vr1 137"... One of my friends got an 850vr1 and rode few times with him, he really loves it... seams to handle very well. I like the position when sitting on it…. Very nice sled.

My reason for staying with Doo, it is simply because I have all my accessories that I can switch from my MXZX to my new Gade (fuel caddy, 1_1 seat, 3 bags, roller skids and +). The thought of selling all accessories and rebuy for the Vr1, did not really made sense for me, mostly that I will keep the Gade only for 2-3 yeas.

Sure, makes sense. I fell in love with the Pro S Axys 800. Made the switch then.

Yeah close but at least 2-3 sleds in the 1/4 and building. I was surprised how close my old 600 SDI stayed with my 800HO this winter in a drag. Wasn't much over a 1/4 mile though.

Dont be fooled, the 600R cruises all day at 70mph plus, that is not an issue. Past 70 or so it will still pull hard to 90 and then tapers off to 100, I put 1500 miles on my 19 XRS 600R last season, it is a wonderful motor. And no, it will not pull like the 850 past 70 but is still strong to 90, I loved mine so much I traded it in on a 2022 MXZ XRS 600R. Never thought about the 850 for a second, the only place the 600 lacks compared to the 850 is top end, on the lake I get smoked up top.

I just read those 650 threads over on HCS again last night. It's pretty much the exact same discussion that happened over here when the 600R first came out. It sounds like both of these newer square designed sixes have way more mid-range grunt / torque than the previous 600s they replaced.

On the 600R. I " think " I get the main idea. Seems like it has plenty of power in the tight sticks and out in the open will cruise at speed no problem. It just won't accelerate hard from said cruising speeds like the 850 can,. Is that about right?

Yessum. It accelerates well, but not like the 850 which seems to have endless legs.

Exactly, very good way to capture it. Just have to decide what you want out of it. I don't really care for long straight trails and try to avoid them. I also don't really need more than a 600 across the lakes because conditions on them are somewhat unpredictable so the 600R does everything I need it to.

Would it be fun to have the extra power? Sure, but I just can't justify the extra cost for limited increase in enjoyment I would get from it.

By the way my 600R is a studded 1.25 129". If I was going with a studded 137" (or deeper lugs) I would have to consider the 850, no studs and 1.25" I am sure a 137 600R would be fine. Between the weight of more track and more studs on the 137 it may cause too much top end loss for my taste.
