anybody check miles per qt oil used with a 600 sdi?

In my opinion, the sdi's get such good fuel milage, that you shouldn't be looking for a certain RATIO to gas...........instead do the mileage thing..........100 miles to a quart is about equivilant to 40:1 so i would like to see at LEAST 1 quart of usage per 100 miles

Why the heck would you guys measure it by miles, whats wrong with you?

You measure it against fuel used to get a ratio, a full tank of gas (40L) to a litre of oil is 40:1 (obviously)

In 100miles you could have burnt a full tank or half a tank so a quart per 100miles doesnt make much sense now does it?

If you burn almost 4 tanks of gas and your sucking the bottom of the oil resevoir your ratio is right around 40:1

ok. I will try and figure it out by gallons to qts added. Which brings up the next question. What ratio is the best to use? 40:1 or 50:1 useing full syn oil? Have you seen anything brp says that the ratio should be for the 600 sdi? I will tel my friend to tell his dealer about what you said to figure it by fuel used and oil added, and not use miles. thanks for input.

I believe that a ratio of 30/35 to 1 is best. I use about a quart to 100 miles sometimes just over 100 miles. I have figured my ratio several times and is mostly in the 30/1 area. My dealer advises that if your not fouling plugs the extra oil is life blood for crank bearings. I agree. I have 7,000 trouble free miles, engine never touched. As I indicated in an earlier post, oil has many important functions. In addition to lubrication, oil cleans cools and seals the engine. At those lean ratios I believe those functions are compromised. 30/35 to 1 or a quart for 100 or so miles at 13 miles to the gallon will extend the life of your engine.. You would also be just as safe with the semi syn oil..

30/35 will keep you on the safe side of things 35/40 is what you want to be if you like to run things on the edge to get the most power, alothough the 2hp difference isnt worth risking a motor!

You are better off running the syn blend oil in the SDI, neither the mineral or full syn have the ability to meet the requirements of that motor.

It did seize piston at 3.4 miles.Looked like a cold seize, but could have been a tight wrist pin, etc.
Also 3000 miles on my 05 mach,so just waiting for crank to go.

Dude this is way way way to lean. Shes going to blow and blow soon if you dont richen up the pump setting. You keep running it like that and every complete revolution of the crank will be a victory!

I will take this with a big grain of salt! If you are running that firecracker at that lean of a condition and it hasnt nuked on you yet then you are the luckiest sum biotch in the world. Mine blew at 32/1. Exhaust bolts came loose and she melted.

Ski Doo states 45:1 is ideal for all their 2 stroke engines. My dealer stated 44:1. I personally now have mine at 45:1 ratio and it took me almost 3 years to get it right. Had to bend the bracket the oil pump cable goes though down in back of the engine to finally get it there. It would do no better than 27:1 with factor specs and cable as wide open as I could get it. That does come out to about 125 miles per quart of oil but depends on you SDI gas mileage.

Just returned from a 1500 mile trip. I used around 12 liters of oil and 340 liters of fuel. That's 125miles/liter, or around 28:1.

It's an 04 GSX 600SDI with 10,000 miles. The ONLY problems to date ... new rings around the 7000 mile mark, a frozen battery, and a rear suspension spring at around 8500 miles. Still runs like new .... like they all do right until they blow up.

Before we put oil in one hole and gas in another, was the average mix not @50:1?

ams, When I first started riding and working on two strokes the recommended ratio from all the engine manufactures was 20/1. You were supposed to dump a quart of oil in every five gallons of gas. Have you ever rubbed 20/1 mix in your fingers, can't feel much oil. That ratio was recommended for years and as oil improved the ratio increased. I think 40/1 is too lean, but it reduces emissions and makes a good sales pitch. Maybe 45/1 with doo syn will make high miles ( in the 15,000 range) but I haven't seen one yet...But I have seen 15,000 with an average of 25/30 to 1..
