I have X5 sinisters as well and wondered this. Im assuming I had to buy the new goggles since the battery pack is in the strap, meaning it must have a plug or contacts in the framing itself

I am wondering the same, it would seem crappy of 509 for not letting you use your existing sinister x5's

 

Yes you could buy the lenses and the battery pack. You would need to slit the foam to allow the cable to get to the battery and the battery just clips into the strap

Ya eh, that makes sense, thanks for confirming... I just need to find a place with a battery and yellow lense in stock lol seems to be out of stock everywhere

 

After having multiple guys in our group with the Oakley Inferno's, the 509 Ignites and I am running the ABOM's, I would go with the Oakleys if I were getting another pair. The battery lasted longer, the lens is better quality, and the system just seemed to work better. 509's would be last on the list. The ABOM's I like that the battery is integrated into the frame, no battery back but you sacrifice battery life with that.

I can't entertain any other option other than the 509's. I wear an RX adapter that fits inside the goggles and they were built around my Sinister X5 goggle frame. It looks kind of like this... https://i.ytimg.com/vi/fK0088UzWV0/maxresdefault.jpg

 

how do the Oakley inferno's work with a helmet? It looks like those are a ski/snowboard goggle.

I contacted 509 and they confirmed, you don't need to buy the entire thing. You can buy the battery and heated lense and it will fine. However, it is extremely hard to find a battery

 

I ordered a battery pack and the heated lenses for my sinister goggles hoping it would work with my x5 goggles. I'll try to remember to report back if it works. I may have a source for another battery back if your interested.

Bumping this up as I just got a set of 509 sinister ignite goggles.

Has anybody tried wiring the Ignite goggles to the heated shield port on the sled? Just curious if this can be done if the battery dies. I would assume it would work ok and the goggles would be on 100%

 

Love my Ignites. The kit comes with a nice case and charger as well. 509 also makes an extension cord in case you want to relocate battery. We have some of these.

Just an update to my previous question. The ignite goggles run off 7.5 volts. I assume a full 12v may cause lens damage from excess heat? I purchased a 3 amp 12v to 7.5v stepdown voltage regulator off eBay. I am splicing it into the factory heated shield wiring and mounting a port (3.5mm od / 1.3mm id coax) on the RH of the console. I'll use a 3 amp inline fuse for the regulator. It will be nice to have a backup power source if the battery pack dies on a long run.

 

Why not just go with 509 full face instead of heated goggles. Just curious.

I rode full face for years and never liked it. Grew up wearing motocross helmets so I opted to go the same route now that I'm back in the snowmobile scene. I am doing this as a backup, not a primary power supply for the goggles. This is much cheaper compared to the $90 price tag on a backup 509 battery pack. I don't want to deal with fogging lenses. This mod will make sure it never happens.

I went from Full face to goggles because I need to wear prescription glasses which suck, so prescription goggles were next best thing. Now I want a heated goggle like 509 Ignite that can use the adapter for RX
