I can't see why you couldn't use it as a dual sport helmet. I've never tried it but you could take the breath box out of it and make sure all of the vents are open and not blocked and I don't see why you couldn't use it in the summer months.

 

I have a 509 Altitude and its a nice helmet. the breath deflector is removable for summer use. I'm sure it would be fine. It is very breathable so I doubt that it would be too hot in the summer.

Absolutely yes you can use 509 helmets for summer sports. As Mentioned above just remove the breath box!

 

the front vents come blocked have to pull the liner out and remove the 4 plugs also
