From the beginning of this year I've been getting my "edit for bad language" kicked by my 440 not always running right and I finally think I've figured out why
Went for a run on the river tonight and it started out running fine...within 5 minutes it seemed like it was loading up but high rpms cleared out. Got worse and worse until it finally puked on a cylinder and died. Screwed around with plugs for about 5 minutes and then limped it the few miles back to the trailer on 1 cylinder. Got it home, cleaned the carbs...nothing, checked for ice...nothing, good spark...*%@! Took a peek down the mag cylinder with a fiber optic light only to find flaking nikasil. Ripped it all apart turns out the mag side flaked some and has a nice spot towards the intake that looks like it expanded and rubbed pretty good (no 4 point seizure stuff) It's got Elko coated pistons and that darn nikasil in embedded into them! Hopefully I've finally found my problem!!
