23 MXZ XRS - 27T top gear, do I need to buy the longer chain?

I have my own thoughts but looking for feedback. I liked the 27/45 gearing in my 2018 X so I'm gonna pick up a 27T top gear for my 23 XRS. The stock chain is 108 pitch and the X / Blizzard with the 27/45 gearing comes with a 110 link chain.

If you are going with a 27 tooth top gear, you will need the 110 chain. I’m just going with a 26 tooth top gear on mine can use a stock chain.

You’ll need a new chain for the 27T. The 26T fits just right with no dog leg…no room for anything bigger though.

I have had Renegade's and 129s in X's and XRS's . Tested multiple times - 25 , 26 and 27 gears against mule sleds . Do yourself a favor and pop a 26 gear in and be done ( With 1.25 or 1.5 track ). Unless running on ice with a Ripsaw the 26 will be faster 95 percent of the time . Use stock chain as well. But to answer your question yes new chain unless you go 26 up top and a 43 on bottom . Basically same ratio.
You"ll never pull a 27t gear .Atleast Not on the XRS .850 sleds .
I even tried again last season after trying the 2 before . The 26 gear is where it’s at . Gives up no acceleration to the 25 and has more top end than the 27 except ice run . Must be for fuel mileage or something why BRP puts the 27 in 🤷‍♂️

Maybe if you have more HP? The new 24 850 Trail Turbo R sounds like it’ll have a 27T top gear next year, but that’s gonna be a beast sled compared to a NA 850. So that may be a whole different ball game with the extra HP.

Although, My buddy’s 18 TNT of course has the 27T top gear, and he buried my 21 XRS on top end when I had the stock 25T top gear the first year. I put the 26T top gear in last year(2022) and it’s a whole new ball game now. But he still gets better gas mileage than I do….so you may be correct.
Its getting hard to find 26T gears anymore.

26/45? Would you still recommend that for a Renegade?
Not to hijack the thread but what brand 26t top gear would you get? Grip n rip or does ski doo make a 26t? Thanks

Ski Doo doesn’t make a 26t top gear. Gotta go aftermarket.

I would with a 1.25 track or possibly with a Storm150 but with a 1.6 Cobra stick with the 25.
