Hi there, I just purchased an 800r Summit 154 with 3600 kilometers on it. Sled was owned by an older gentlemen who used it primarily for trail riding and it looks extremely well cared for. I have heard some bad things about the 800R engine but for the price and condition of the sled, I figured I would take a chance on it. I'm not a "hardcore" rider and won't be pushing the sled hard. I am looking for things I can do to keep my engine running well without issue. I just want to have a reliable sled.

I had same sled as yours but a 2013. Sold it at about 2000 miles mixed with trail and mountain, never skipped a beat. The 800r ptek does have a bad name due a some bad earlier years. It seemed after 2012 they were solid. Big thing on this motor like most Ski doos is check the carb boots for delamination and keep up on the isoflex. Run good oil and gas and let er rip

One of my ptek 800r engine went close to 14,000kms (mountain kms) before it blew. Actually the piston ring came apart.
All I did was regular maintenance and inspections, kept my clutches clean and in specs, check the pto stub runout and kept the bearing greased, ran good oil, ran good gas and made sure it was jetted right, and also made sure the motor was warmed up before heading out.
Still have my 08 sled and over 30,000 kms on it.
