2010 Renegade ETEC HO 600 - any common issues with them?

Hey Dootalkers! I’m buying a 2010 Renegade 600 ETEC, and I’m in search of common issues so that I can get on top of them this summer. It’s a low mile sled owned by an older gentleman who never got out riding due to health issues (900ish miles on it). Any common fail points on these? I get that it’s low mile but it’s been sitting around for most of its life in a garage.

Early versions of the 600 etec had a problem with the anti rotation pin which could lead to the ring catching in the cylinder port.

If it's a low miles unit, this problem might not have been already solved by the previous owner.

This is great to know, thanks for this. My understanding is that he mostly just rode it around his house/local trails, and it doesn’t seem like much has been done to the sled other than yearly maintenance by the dealer. So I’d bet it’s not addressed.

At the age it is, spend some time and grease the main bearings with fresh isoflex and replace gaskets and throw a set of Wiseco pistons in it if you plan on keeping it long term. You can also have the break-in reset after you do it. Other than those items, make sure the intake boots get replaced. The OEM boots are notorious for falling apart. I used Boyesen in my 600 when it was time.

With that mileage, I’d hope to keep it long term for sure. This is exceptionally helpful! Taking notes for summer projects.
Out of curiosity, why the pistons? They don’t seem super expensive upon googling, which is nice. Mostly curious about why the OEM ones would have issues

I had a 2010 Renegade with a 600etec, put 15,000 km on it with no problems. Make sure you let it warm up good before you drive it, this applies to anything, and yes check the intake boots, they are notorious for failure which can take out the engine.

It should go 10k mikes easy. Have 14k miles on my 2010. Never regressed crank bearings. it had very little maintenance. 11k Motor blew due to stator. Other side still had 150 psi compression. Crank still looked great. Still had grease in it. Really liked the sled so rebuilt it. The rollers in secondary made it till 13k mikes before breaking. Never touch primary clutch yet at 14k miles.

Getting some high mileage on it/a good amount of use would be great. With the price of new ETECs these days, I was looking for a way to get into the ETEC without it costing an arm and a leg. Very excited about this one
