Hi,

I recently purchased a 2010 MXZ 800r Ptek. After starting it, it runs great for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then once idle for that time, it drops down to one cylinder until you throttle it again. Once it drops to one cylinder, the gauge cluster lights begin to go out, only flickering when that second cylinder kicks in randomly (or at least it seems). Obviously the sled runs, but I'd like to get this issue resolved.

What we have done so far/information:

  • New plugs
  • Carbs cleaned/boots tightened
  • New gas line
  • Good plug pressure
  • Plug wiring good
Thanks everyone!

Sounds like the pilot jet circuit is plugged in one carb. Determine which cylinder isn’t firing by the heat of the exhaust y-pipe. Remove the pilot jet and the fuel mixture screw. Using a spray such as WD40, alternately spray through the pilot jet and fuel screw holes while plugging the other hole with your finger. Ensure the fluid comes through all the holes in the carb body. Compare to the other carb as an indicator that they are all clear. Ensure the pilot jet is clear or replace.
