Bad ground bad cluster? What do you think?

Pins 23 and 24 are the communications between the ECM and the gauge.

Maybe re-flow those pins and see if the problem goes away.
Thank you

Sounds good. Maybe you just need to "re-flow" the solder at the pin.

You may have what is called a "cold" solder joint. You can test this with a meter but you have to find the other end of the wire at the ECM.

Re-flow means just touching a hot solder iron to the pin where the wire inserts (picture would be nice). I would also dab a little flux on it first.
As far a posting pictures.

this is the little guy that when I wiggle the cluster freaks out. but after all of this I think its farther down in the harness. when I lay the cluster up on the dash of the sled it works perfect as soon as I click it back in it freaks out

Yes and it also appears that the pin is just crimped not soldered.

So you are saying that only after you click the gauge back into the hood is when the self-test starts cycling repeatedly? Otherwise you can juggle the gauge around and it never happens?

This is starting to sound more like another problem that was posted here. Something to do with a bad ground strip that is part of the gauge.
Yeah so as it bends back into the machine it breaks contact. I’m finding cracked wires in throughout the harness. Got a replacement coming
It was the wiring harness. Everything is back together and all is well
What a minger of a job. Now I’m replacing all the bushings on the suspension and painting the control arms/spindles. Then a bad ass snow camo wrap

At least you found the problem. some of these electrical gremlins can go on and on.... :smile_old:
You did the right thing by just going with a new harness, I was chassing the white rabbit for two years with my 800 etec and it was a broken wire. Glad you got the thing figured out.

there do u know how much should those pin messure? both are negative or ground ? I tested my harness and those 2 pins show less voltage than the other grounds. pin 12 should be a ground also?cos that one it not showing any signs.
many thank mine is a freeride 2014
