Hi, I'm new to the site and find it packed with great info. I'm working on my friends 04, 500ss. We recently burned up a piston on the mag side. Found the obvious burned piston and damaged jug, replaced both. We are not sure what caused it. Carb boots are good, exhaust pipe is good. When we fire it up it idles fine for a couple of minutes and then starts to creep up on the idle. After research on this site I think the crank seals may be suspect. We sprayed carb cleaner behind primary when idle raised and it would bring it back down every time. With the pull starter still on and machine running we sprayed carb cleaner down into mag cover and this would return machine back to normal idle as well. This is all leaning me towards crank seals. We have not done a leak down test yet but plan on it. Any input would be appreciated. Does anyone know if the case has to be split to do the mag side crank seal?
