2003.5 summit rev question

642 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  hymark800
Has anyone here had the 2003.5 summit rev 800ho when they first came out. My buddy has one and he put a 151 inch track on it. So basicaly its the same as my 2004 summit rev 800ho.

Well the question is: His sled will handle side to side alot better than any of the newer revs, it sidehills better, way easier to handle. I know that they did a rear suspension change from the 2003.5 to the 2004. Has anyone ever noticed this. I am going to find out what is different on the suspensions and change mine. Does anyone know the difference. thanks

I have an 03.5 Summit Rev X 144 and I love it!
Don't really know why but I did notice that it is a lil' more agile on the side-hill than later model years. Measure your suspension parts and I'll measure mine. (or measure your bud's) and compare/post your results. See where his mount holes are in the tunnel and rear bracket as well. (Mine was a dealer demo and set-up when I got it and I noticed the complete setup was moved to the rear of the sled about an inch from stock location.) I did remove the one ton torsion/sway bar from it though; (it would flick you off a side-hill like a bogger from a fat kid's finger!) Since I removed it and adjusted suspension to my weight and riding style it's like buttah!
Let us know what ya find out!

I had my buddy measure his. On the rear suspension, the very front mount bolt is an inch closer to the rear, he has a shaft going threw the torque arm and mine has two bolts with nuts that are mounted on peices that skidoo welded to the torque arm.

I am going to order the shaft and bushing so I can mount it like the 2003.5 models. I am going to have to drill holes one inch back from the stock ones. If you look underneath you will see that there is a doubler plate that has a blank hole there, that is where I am going to drill. All I know is that his is WAY more nimble than any another rev summit I've rode. We compared it to about 7 other revs last year.

I have the 03.5 summit. You can't just order the shaft and put it in. If your set on doing this I will trade you mine straight across. Just bolt on and go. They made the arm longer to help keep the nose down.
I talked to a dealer that has put these on before, he is sending me the alluminum shaft and the 2 bushings to do this. It will work, he has had a few people do this to there 04 and newer revs also. total cost $28.00
That change was made to the 04 to reduce the approach angle, and provide more weight transfer, if I recall, at least in part. They wanted it to climb on the pow more. But, did the 03.5 also have the 10t drivers as did the 04 144 and 151 X's?

Make sure you check your rail tip clearance to the external drivers, fully compressed, before you ride. Mr. Rail and Mr. External Driver do not get along.

I'd guess the sidehilling dif is as much front end calibration, skis, etc., as the front arm setback, but it would be an interesting before and after. Good luck.
I checked and the 2003.5 and my 2004 both have the 10 tooth drivers, they are not the extroverts. I just got the kit and will be installing it today. Now all I need is snow.
ok, so i went and checked the 04 tq arm with the 03.5 or older. sure as chit it will work. Some 04s (x models) have extros and the 03.5 had standard 10t. I can't see why this would help sidehilling. I also think the 04s sit higher or is wider in the front end which may contribute to the sidehilling. As a mt rider the longer the front tq arm the better. Good luck.
