I bought a VR from kimpex for my 2001 formula deluxe...bought form kimpex because only place could find ski-doo says part is discontinued

They look similar but it came with no wire diagram and the colors are different

The original VR has the following wires

Black

Red/Blue

Yellow

Yellow/black

The Kimpex VR has

Yellow

Yellow

Yellow/green

Black

Anyone know where the wires go?

Yeah, they are suppose to come with a piece of paper to tell you, but the last one I got didn't have it either.

I would guess the two yellows are the Yellow and Yellow/Black. Shouldn't matter which one, but for grins, put a ohm meter between each of the two yellows and the black. If either one registers 0 ohms, then I would make that the Yellow/Black.

Yellow/Green is the red wire and black to ground.

So i hooked it up as you said and the lights didn't work....hook hold VR back up lights come on....So i checked the Yellows for Ohms and both had 0? Hooked back up no lights....switch the 2 yellows still no lights...un-hooked one yellow and lights work...doesn't matter which yellow i unhook and the lights work...I am thinking this VR is shorting out and is no good right from the box?

Uhg, hate it when they screw up color coding.

My guess would be that the

yellow/green = Yellow

Yellow = Yellow/Black

And with just those connected. Measure the voltage between the other yellow and the black.

Dennis Kirk had this on their site. Apparently that is only for a non-electric start machine:

Special thanks to DennisKirk.com for being an awesome site. :)

Somebody else asked me about this...

A friend had an Arctic Cat M8 that was demolished and he used it as a parts machine for fixing another. One of the parts left behind was the regulator.

I decided to put that in a Skidoo. Arctic Cat part number: 0630-250

Clipped the wires and figured what was what and put it on the Skidoo and it works fine. Seems to be a much more robust regulator, we'll see how long it last.

I'm fairly convinced that all these regulators are basically the same and can be used on many different machines. The one difference is that there are some multi-phase stators and those would require a regulator for that purpose.
