Technically your're all right, stock was 330-340-330 but an update was issued in the first year to go to 310-320-310 (along with other changes such as a different primary spring and retarding the timing to 0.065")

310-320-310 is correct. As per Doo Warranty Bulletin 98-10.

I also happen to have the carbs off one in my garage that I am cleaning up for a friend, and the 330-340-330 jets were in there. He said it runs great but will foul plugs out when he runs it hard.

retarding timing usauly reduces HP or allows use of lower octain fuel

were can I get a copy of Warranty Bulletin 98-10 & 98-15?

thanks

Yep mine had the updates, jetting 310,320,310 and the timing was set at .068 BTDC. I have since reset the timing to .083 and with my pipes my jetting is 340,350,340. Adjusting the timing definately woke it up but you must run premium fuel.

dyno port says that after ethanol came out should go one jet size larger

so I am running 320-330-320

what do you think?

Yes I am. You should also reduce your pilot from 50 to 45 if your having plug fowling issues.

Call me crazy, but I'm running 280s across the board on my '98...got it used on a trade with 5,300ish miles. Never checked the timing, but I've been running the 280s here in WI and the UP for 2 seasons, and have ridden once this year so far. I've put about 1,000 miles on it with the 280s.

Do you do any wide open 2 mile lake runs?

Do you 93 octain ethanol fuel?

Are you running br9es plugs?

Do your spark plugs look as white as when you installed them?

thanks

Nope, just a trail sled. We do get some long corridor runs, and it can get close to wide open.

Do you 93 octain ethanol fuel?

Nope, whatever the highest is at the pump...usually 91

Are you running br9es plugs?

Can't remember for sure, and don't feel like running out to look right now. Next time I'm in the shed I will double check though

Nope, light toasty brown. Initial wide open plug chops looked fine (never did low or mid though) and periodic plug checks on the trail side look good as well.

I feel like I have it jetted spot on...but trust me, I've been nervous since day one that something is going to happen to this thing. I'm nervous I'm going to burn it down because it's lean, I'm worried that it's going to toast the crank b/c it's 6,000+ miles on an engine that I haven't had my own hands in, it's 6,000+ miles on a '98 700 triple that probably doesn't have the oil hole drilled (again, haven't torn it down myself to inspect so I have no idea what I have) and that scares me. It's ran like brand new since the day I got it, but I can't help but worry that it's next ride could be it's last.
