I have a question about a primary clutch moveable sheave, I can push it closed by hand with very little resistance. Any ideas on why? I just bought this sled cheap because of the clutch problem.

The guy had the clutch apart because it wasnt engaging until 6000 rpm, now it seems like the spring in the governor cup may be broken? with the belt off and the sled running it closes the sheave all the way at idle.

Any input is appreciated, I love these old sleds, and I'm trying to keep another one from ending up in the boneyard. Thanks

It turned out to be the guy had put the clutch back together wrong, clutch was not "timed" correctly and the governor cup was cocked a little not allowing the splines to line up on stationary sheave. I put it back together correctly and works fine.

Clutch engages at 4,500 rpm just like it should. Another one saved from the bone yard :smile_old:
