10 gallon fuel tank on a 440

I purchased a 10 gallon fuel tank for my '04 440 and was unpleasantly surprised to find that the larger tank doesn't have the clearance provisions for the rear-only 440 radiator coolant lines that must run underneath it. Does anyone have a suggestion for working around this problem economically and without adding a full underseat radiator?

Or for that matter, does anyone have any interest in a 2004 440 MXZx in very good condition if I decide not to perform the trail conversion? ;-)

just duct tape the lines where it will rub and cut the tab off the back of the tank. i just did it this weekend, and it worked fine. they make no tank to fit those sleds just jam it in it will be fine.

not true!! You can get the clear summit 10 gallon tank that has the channel there already for the hoses. Or what i did was heated up the bottom of the tank with a heat gun and pressed it down on a broom handle to form my own channel. I also cut the tab off the back as well.
Here is a pic of the clear 10.5 gallon tank used on Summits and trail converted 440X REV's.

Trim of the rear tab with a utility knife and put a bit of wire loom over the hose at the rear of the tank.

HUH? What seat?

Basically you need the clear gas tank and NOT the black gas tank.

Yep, the summit tank and 440 tank are the same. (Except for the sdi summits.)
I just used a rasp to file away the back enough so it wouldn't rub on the lines....
it is for a 06 440 chassie ok its a clear one
I purchased part # 86020028 from Ski Doo and it seems to fit pretty well except for one part. It seems like the filler neck on it sits up kinda high and you can see between the center console so you can see the top of the tank. Also there was a hole that I had to plug with a grommet. Maybe I ordered the wrong tank??

if the hole was in the upper front of the tank, you just need to plug it...
The hole is for non-vented caps. If your cap is vented, you should plug the hole with a small length of primer line or something similar and then crimp off the end of the hose using a bolt crammed down it, bend it over on itself and zip tie it, etc, etc.

If your cap is not vented, you will need to attach a longer line to the tank and extend it up the handle bars so it doesn't spit gas under the hood.
Thanks for all the good ideas. Has anyone else successfully tried the heated tank/broom handle method? I'm not sure I want to heat the bottom of a previously used fuel tank, but the concept is more appealing than buying a new tank.
777FTR,

I purchased a used black tank off e-bay this past winter knowing it would need
alterations to make it work. It is definately possible to do. It was a little nerve racking
but with a little paitience and a heat gun I was able create a channel for the hoses
down the length of the tank and have complete clearance at the tail end where the
hoses bend up and into the heat exchanger. You have to heat the tank up considerably
to get it to distort. There was already a shallow channel on my tank for the full length
cooler, so I used a two 2x4 and broom handle at the tail. You are correct about the tank
seeming to be a tight fit. I had the same issue with it seeming like the filler head of the
tank was taller and I have a slight gap now but nothing I couldn't live with. There are
several posts on this subject. When I did my research I found some nay-sayers and a
couple of success stories. I purchased the tank for $65 and thought it was worth a shot.
It has worked out great!
