Say guys im looking for a 05 summit 1000 with the 159" track, just wondering if this is a good year sled or does it have problems or do I need to get a newer one. I figured I could probly find a 05 fairly reasonable since its 2 years old now, and also whats the difference in a regular summit and the X model. Thanks

The 1000 was never offered in the 159. Only 151 and 162. If you want a 162 you would have to go with the 05 X, the 05 151 was a late released sled only available in standard.

The differences between the X and Standard are handlebars, braided brake line, lightwieght brake rotor, shocks, seat, and graphics (might be forgetting a few things)

I would not go newer, the only differences are skis, seat, cooling, and the secondary clutch. Which can be bought to make the sled to 06 specs for less than the cost of a whole new 06.

On the 05, you can take off the rear heat exchanger then the cooling system is pretty much the same as an 06, just shaped a little different.

Based on my experience from my old 05 1000 X 162, I would never buy one again, just my 2 cents.
a 162" would be fine by me, how come you wouldnt own another one, not enough power or is it not a good hill climber or lots of problems, just curious, whats a good hill sled, Oh skidoo
ever go to fuel injection, I dont want to mess around with jetting.

i have an 06 151x an i love the sled in the deep snow, works great and a ton of power. had an 04 159x before. the 151x kicks its "edit for bad language".

I had many problems, fouling plugs, front cooler cracking (good thing dealer covered it even though it was passed the warranty), and ofcoarse the crappy clutching and gearing.

You will find that you NEED a Boondocker or Boss box to control the fuel injection. Boss is around $260 and boondockers is almost $400, then you need a 20T top gear, and lots of clutching. Theres a grand to get it to run right.
Well I dont want to have to put a ton of money in a sled after I buy it, Clutching is usually always standard, maybe a can but I dont want to start messin around with more than that. Do I need to move up to a 06, and also what do you guys prefer the 151, or the 162 track with the 1000. I just want a good mountain sled that works, has plenty of power and goes about anywhere

My two cents,I new when i bought the biggest bore with the longest track, the new fuel injection, new chassis, new clutching that there would be a challenge. That is why skidoo is the best in the world, and its people like us that make the difference.Don't let you're fingers get cold, keep tuning!
