04' 151 summit X bogey wheels

I have read in this forum that you can remove the front bogey wheels on early 151 summits without any ill effects. My 04 151 burns up the hyfax just behind the front wheels. Would I get better bar life by getting rid of them? I have ice scratchers ready to install. Thanks for any advice!

You wont gain anything. You just loose wieght. You should be fine with scratchers if you take them off.

so you don't need the front bogeys at all? just put the scratchers in their place or is it till better to have both?
The scratchers replace them, scratchers mount in the same hole plus you have to drill another hole just in front of that.
I don't run any wheels other then the two rear center ones. I have scratchers for when ever I have to ride on the packed trails. I can usually make a whole season one one set of hyfax. Besides, hyfax are cheep to replace, so I don't loose a lot of sleep over it. I enjoy the weight reduction, and they aren't there to collect and trap snow and ice in the skid frame - a win win in my book.

After posting this question last year I rode about 1100 miles last season without the bogeys and everything was fine. Just have to replace the hyfax every season like Irondog said. Even with the front wheels on, the hyfax were shot after 1k miles. Scratchers really extend hyfax life as well.
