#23832977 first timer 850 / Backcountry xrs, what do I need / need to know

Posted by crf250dude on 03 April 2021 - 08:12 AM

all good stuff guys thanks,

the few BC's I have seen on the trails all sound like they have a "can", pretty braaappy unless that is the stock exhaust?

I built a flatland freeride version of this out of a 900 renegade a few years ago and it was a hoot, 2" and summit front end, couldn't get the thing stuck around here.

So here is my must have list so far:

spare belt

oil

scratchers

I will probably throw some clutching at it at some point I am guessing

BC is hopefully gonna be my 80/20 off/on sled.  I could care less about the top speed on the 850 personally

#23776817 Is it worth driving to Munising/Wetmore for one last ride?

Posted by crf250dude on 03 March 2021 - 08:35 PM

In Wetmore now, took a rip out to 8 towards Buckhorn and rattled my teeth loose, went to Shingleton, a bit better, headed towards Steuben, and about the same . Plenty of snow.. it’s just piled into mounds

go to the build section, change the track lug height, then go back and change the length to 154. should work

#23765069 2022 XRS or X

Posted by crf250dude on 26 February 2021 - 07:59 PM

depends on how you ride, personally I will pay the extra for the xrs, I have done the on running board adjusters back in 2015 and will never do them again.

#23748651 Its true the Mach is back

Posted by crf250dude on 19 February 2021 - 09:19 PM

haven't read the other 10 pages on the 900 turbo r motor yet, if we rely on history, the claimed 180hp. should be around 195?

did anyone else notice that one nose hair off the left side nostril of the guy talking about the lynx? its all I could focus on, I have no clue what he said about any of the sleds

can't wait to see all the Mach's stuttering their sleds at every stop sign and gas pump

#23472665 Trail pass on vented hood?

Posted by crf250dude on 03 September 2020 - 09:35 AM

I put mine on the top vent, heat up the plastic just a little, push down on the vent and it will tuck under the hood trim, I also use gorilla tape, cut thin 1/4" strips to match the trail pass outer edges, I have never had any issues or lost any. It will also fit under the headlight on an angle, same with the tape. I think my avatar shows it as well. can't get a picture to download

#23298823 Does a tune make a 900 turbo feel more like an 850?

Posted by crf250dude on 28 February 2020 - 08:08 PM

the weight and throttle issues are usually the weight of the rider with zero setup that expects a 600 plus pound sled to handle perfect with no roll, push or any adverse reaction on varying surfaces and conditions and the fact that they probably have their thumb at the outside of the flipper and can't figure out why their sled is jumpy.

I have around 10,000 miles between a couple of turbos and can honestly say, they have been some of the most fun miles I have ever put on a sled.

probably close to 30,000 miles on the drive by wire throttles between 7 900's and have never complained once.

#23295043 RIDE RIGHT - HOW HARD IS IT?

Posted by crf250dude on 26 February 2020 - 06:51 PM

if we could all just adhere to (2) simple rules....

keep your hands on your handlebars, stop the hand signal countdown...... there is always someone behind you, and you cant make an evasive manuever with one hand on a 650 pound sled, and

stay on your side of the trail, we would all be better for it.

Two of my new favorites are those that hand signal at night, and the group of 13 stopped at a stop sign in a single file line, that gave me the full countdown to last rider, in the U.P. on a section of trail that you can see for a couple miles easily in either direction.   I just shake my head

what cracks me up is all these people who blow through the corner, then decide the first thing they should do is throw up a hand signal for me letting me know other riders are behind them while they are bouncing through my lane into the snowbank. Guess they think that makes up for crap driving

Posted by crf250dude on 20 February 2020 - 07:15 PM

SHIM your skies....

just did a 2 cent shim fix on mine today, made a big difference. Yesterday was on the DS ski with a shaper bar and wanted to quit riding, today, stock ski, stock carbide on outside 6" center with an 1/8th inch shim made a world of difference

now if I ride my 19' blacked out turbo, people will think I am on a 2021 since it looks identical other than I have black reflectors
