Adding traction devices to track

14 April 2020 - 03:01 PM

I have a 2019 Backcountry 146 base model that came with a 1.6" track with no added traction.  I want to add studs but I'd prefer to add the type in the Ice Ripper track.  Can they be added as aftermarket?  At the Syracuse NY sled show, I saw a company called iGrip  ( that makes this type of screw stud.  I have called them, but since they are French Canadian, with a heavy French accent, we were not able to communicate in a fashion that made me feel like I was getting the proper answers to my questions.  They probably felt the same way!   They were great to deal with but we were just not communicating with each other.

I also saw a uTube video of a guy with an Ice Ripper track who felt he needed to add Stud Boy studs.  Perhaps I should just do that in lieu of the Ice Ripper style?

I consulted my sled dealer but they didn't have the correct size studs that I needed, so I would be forced to buy full-size boxes of studs, leaving me with 40-some extra studs at a whopping cost, that I would probably never need.

I have studded at least 6 sleds so far, so the actual job doesn't phase me.  I just need help in deciding what to do and what to use.  Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks!  Randy

Need info on guided tp to Gaspe

13 April 2020 - 02:47 PM

Hi!  Brand new to the forum and this is the first season I have ever ridden a Doo.  2019 Backcountry leftover with 850 146".  So far, 1455 miles and I am damned happy.

I bought the Doo with the Linq baggage just for a trip to Gaspe.  I want to back pack but I want it guided with someone else planning the hotels, food stops, knowledge of the area, support, etc.  I'd be going there from near Philadelphia PA, which would probably take us up Rt 17 <?> thru Maine.  We've been going to the Moosehead region of Maine as well as the County for the past 15 years, so we are well aware of drive times, terrain, etc.

That said, can anyone recommend an outfitter?
