#7189090 Want To Add a Trouble Free Mechanical Tether

Posted by AslerGamma on 09 February 2014 - 03:13 AM

The last thing i would want is for a 'computer' to decide if I'm far enough from the sled - as the throttle is stuck wide open and I'm getting sucked into the track.

I'm sorry but when it comes to safety, i don't want a middle man, I SAY NO TO TETH-AIR.

Until there is a 'Ferrari' of snowmobiles, in which i would tailor my skills to the beast, I will forever tailor the beast to suit my needs - in which case, its mine, not yours, and i dont care what you say. deep down its still a Ski-doo and thats all that matters.

#4859201 AeroCharger vs. Boondocker

Posted by AslerGamma on 04 September 2013 - 07:47 PM

The bad thing about Doo is the etec. It is hard to get a controller to work with the injectors I have been told. Justin at Silber told me they will not be using the Bullydog tuner with the skidoo. They however do use it with the Poo. Bryce at Turbo Performance has the ability to run the Bullydog on the Pro as well. They havnt figured out how to run an etec with the bullydog.

If and when they get the ViPec running for an etec that will be the cream of the crop. It is a full stand alone replace, plug and play ECU. It has the ability to change anything. Imagine being able to hold the brake for more than lets say 8 seconds, telling the ECU to retard timing alot. This firing the fuel and creating boost, but not allowing the motor to use the power. So full boost at say 3000 rpm. Then as soon as the brake is released, full timing comes back. And boom the motor is off like a rocket. Well ViPec has this ability. It is already being done on the Pro. They are running 12-14psi on pump gas. If you monitor the timing and fuel just right. It can be done, and make great power. Bryce knows his stuff. They just are big name brand like Boondockers. Its a small company in Utah that has been doing turbos on sleds since the early 90's. I think Bryce has even been doing turbos earlier than that.

You might hear people speak of the Turbo Boyz. That is Bryce and his buddy. They use to use Aerocharger turbos. They can still produce a kit with one I believe. Or you can go the oiless automotive turbo route. They can do that too. Bryce can tell you the good and bads to all the turbos.

All this turbo talk makes me really excited.

After looking into the ViPec and what they have. Even though they have a purpose built one for the Polaris, that system would be easy to adapt to the doo. That or scratch build it. I know it's easier said than done but if you sat down and did it... It will get done.

Even from the videos I've seen on the install for the plug and play of the Polaris model. There is still a substantial amount of work that needs to be done to adapt it to the sled.

So far here's what they have in the works.

So Boondocker is pretty flexible with the size of their turbos and the boost that they provide, but they dont offer the variable vane that the AeroCharger does for instant power...

But the AeroCharger seems to be limited to only one turbo which restricts the overall boost.

All BS aside, and no offense, I'd like to hear from guys who have them and/or who have ridden one or the other...  and not the peanut gallery.

Does one rival the other in performance and/or reliability?  I'm leaning toward Boondocker due to the flexibility in performance and less moving parts.  As much as the variable vane setup would be nice, to me that just screams random failure...

#4393545 Spinal Fusion, Do you still ride mountain?

Posted by AslerGamma on 05 June 2013 - 04:52 PM

actually my question was answered, so let the hijack begin.

the tree huggers can "edit for bad language" up a tree, the primary motivating factor to go sledding... out of spite - because i can - for no reason.

those same tree huggers cry on trees getting damaged but at the same time put a price on another plant roll it up and smoke it.

I understand the stance on supporting our sports freedom, but the fact that judges and politicians listen and act upon it in itself is asinine.

simply put, some peoples kids have too much time on their hands.

i mean honestly, if they focused the same amount of energy toward the poverty of the united states, i would be in full support of them. to me investing time into another persons life is time well spent.

#4309813 Further proof as to why tethers are more than a good idea

Posted by AslerGamma on 22 April 2013 - 05:27 PM

Watching all of the pro videos, I've always wondered if this had happened, crazy it was caught on video, but i've been amazed as to how many riders dont use them.

#4300968 872 Etec XM Video

Posted by AslerGamma on 10 April 2013 - 11:38 PM

I'm sure your probably right, but why won't any of the builders post some video comparing their kits to stockers? I'm sure they run better but why not show it. We have lots of BB etec video now but I have yet to see one that lines the BB up with a stocker on a pull. Maybe I missed something. Not bashing just think that would be an easy way to show improvement from stock.

probably because results differ and/or depend.  With the issues that plague a 2 strokes reliability and that their performance is highly influential compared to say a 4 stroke, a builder probably would get nit-picked by a lot of buyers if it wasn't the exact same as what it was in the comparison.  and trying to relay a 15 hp increase depending on how its ridden and the terrain might not be that noticeable.

proof is in the pudding when you mash the throttle because you know your sled better than anyone.

i'd venture to say that its the same/similar reason why most manufacturers dont publish the weights of their sleds on their web sites, if no one else does it, why should you.

#4300920 872 Etec XM Video

i understand completely everyone's skepticism a video is just that a video. i have done fairly extensive research as far as which big bore to go with this summer. I have talked to just about every builder and read just about every post online about the "big" three. Dave (seems to me) the best. He responds to emails in a very timely fashion no matter the time of day or night with very good insight. I have not read even a single bad review on an engine he has set up. That being said my engine is coming out today and getting shipped to him to do an 872 kit and a 2013 crank. next year be ready for some videos and ride reports. i am very excited for what is to come. i have a few friends from stock mountain cats to 2013 race gas turbo pros (when they can stay running ;-) and i will put it up against each one and post a video. hold me to it.

This was also my assessment of my research.

My first video. I'm not huge about music in videos but it was deep and sugary. I was pretty much WOT most of the time. Maybe I should of added music.

Edited:

Changed the video a little and added some music.

Finally!! someone who knows how to mount a camera to a helmet.  I usually pass on watching head shots because they're almost always pointed at the front skies, cant see anything other than looking down - unless everyone rides looking down...

Good vid, thanks for sharing!
