RC Jets

07 October 2020 - 05:39 PM

Watching these fairly large RC Jet videos, it made me wonder how much 120 lbs (or 240) of thrust could do on the back of a snowmachine.

They are light weight, just a bit larger than a beer can.

Not expecting it to be the primary power source, just a boost.   Would it make a difference?

I'm just curious, have no plans on doing something like that, but it would seem that someone would be crazy (and rich) enough to try it.   67 Lb thrust engine cost about $3k US.

NHRA Drag Racing

13 July 2020 - 04:22 AM

Anyone watch these races?   Every time they come to Alaska, I make sure I get to the race.    Love watching them on FS1.

Two questions I've wondered about:

How are the funny-cars faster than the rails?   Top fuel funny car is hitting 320+ MPH, where the top-fuel rails hit 310.   I always figured the top-fuel rails would be the fastest thing on the track.

They'll say these funny-cars are "Mustangs" or "Chevy" or whatever.   Really, these funny-cars have no factory parts in them and even the body style only vaguely resembles their named model.

clean hands

26 May 2020 - 04:38 AM

Not virus related...

I've used various products over the years to clean my hands after working on engines.   Orange Clean, Goop, etc.

The other day I noticed my sink was starting to get slower and slower draining.    This particular sink has a pipe that goes into the wall and then does a quick 90 degree turn.    So makes it hard to get a snake through it.

As I was scraping the pipes, I notice the build up was mostly from the Orange Clean.   I didn't really know that stuff would build up like that.

Luckily, in my case, I used some Liquid Plumber to just break it down and it broke loose and the drain is normal again.

So why post?   Mostly to let people know that that hand cleaner stuff doesn't go down the pipes very well.

Types of light sockets

Do most or all the new machines use the same H4 socket?

I'm wondering about a LED focus design that will fit.  Use a tube and a special focus lens for the high beams, for example.

Pesky Gaskets

25 January 2020 - 06:12 PM

okay, I want to know your tips and tricks for removing gaskets.

For years, I've just used a razor blade and WD-40 to scrape the gaskets off, but I each time I do it, I keep thinking there must be an easier way.   For me, in probably occupies about half the time of doing a rebuild.  Specially that pesky base gasket.

I've tried some chemicals and some help more than others, but I've not found an easier way to do it.     I remember a long time ago asking my dad what the easiest way to clean up the surfaces was and he said "I have my son do it"
