Finally completed a custom rear rack for my son’s new sled (new to him, a 2011 Summit 146’). We are avid ice fisherman who travel far to remote lakes and don’t like to haul a sleigh so all our gear needs to make it on the sled. One of the drawbacks of his Summit is that there is no rack and we didn’t want to damage the heat exchanger so I decided to build a sleek rack that would be practical and yet maintain the sport look.
I built it out of ¾” x ¾” Tubing (1/16” thick) and 1” x 1/8” flat bar. I don’t have what it takes to properly bend square tubing so the bends were made by multiple cuts in the tubing, bending it, welding it back up, grinding and sanding. It is plenty sturdy and should provide a good base to pile on the gear and tie it down.
Now I need to build and extended one for my Expedition!
