I bought an 07 summit 800r 151" this fall with 8500 km. Im not sure how long an engine will last if its been looked after but i have this eerie feeling the crank is gonna blow on me while im out riding. So what im wondering is should i keep the sled and get the engine rebuilt, or sell it and get a used 2010 backcountry with 3000km. I live in the flatlands and dont really need a mountain machine for my riding. So any opinions would be greatly appreciated, do i spend 3 grand on upgrades or sell and spend that extra money on the backcountry. Is the 07 800r worthy of upgrades? Waste of money?

Nice thats what i like to hear. I was Looking at the rk tek drop in kit, would it be better to go with big johns or rk? I dont plan on going crazy and making it an 880r or anything like that, thats why i am leaning towards the rk drop in. Im a heavy duty mechanic so i should be able to do most the work myself, other than the crank and case i would definitely send that out

i know lots of people who have did the rk "drop in kit" themselves very easy. as for the crank have you did a DIY leak down test, are you sure crank needs work.

$700 for a crank and $300 for pistons/ gaskets. my math says $1000 and you are good for another 07 to 14 so drop the 1 and you get 7 more years REV ON!

I havent done leak test yet. Engine still runs good but i got the sled used and not sure if the case has been updated. Even if it was updated how many km can you put on a crank before she gets tired? Where would i find a crank for 700? That from the dealership?

If it has that many miles upgrade to a trygstad big bore kit and have dave build crank. With that many miles the infamous 07 800r crank tolerance issue would of already occured. If the crank goes, it will be usually within 500-2000 miles. The originally rev chassi is much better then the xp. Last year I bought two xps brand new and downgraded back to the 2007 rev. Rev is more foregiving on mistakes

Even if the sled has never been to the mountains the crank should of gone by now? If so this pleases me. Is the trygstad recommended over rk tek and sledhead? I run on just regular pump gas as thats all thats around for a few miles, if i get these upgrades will i need to run on 91 octane?
