Welcome to the blown club.  Sorry to hear about your luck too.  My wife's 17 Gade 850 with 4950 miles blew up about two weeks ago.  Really don't like hearing about all these great motors that "2 Strokes will last" are blowing up.  Hers completely ate up the PTO side piston ( I have a posting of it all 17 done blowd you can c.)

Sad that we pay all this money for these TOP OF THE LINE SLEDS and they cant make it but a couple years.

I was able to buy a new motor for 2700, best of luck finding your replacement if not under warranty.

Sucks!!!!!!

Nothing partys like a rental.

Did you ever take it to the dealer to do the recalls and updates? I have the dealer change the plug each year and give it the once over every year year after year they do find stuff to be replaced. Mostly covered under warranty its, $150 for pugs and the 30min to look it over. Most go because the rad valves are leaking and didnt do the update is my understanding.

Well my 18 went down last week at 8400 and I noticed too a considerable amount of increased oil usage over new.

That's unfortunate!  I thought the 850's would be good for 10K with the way they were engineered.  OP:  Give us some history on warm-ups and how you drove it for reference.

Id love to know what fuel is being used in these 850's that are blowing at low mileage? fill it with 87 then rag on it?  Are the flippers being held to the bar for long periods? Mine has 6200 miles and still pulls wicked strong, I only use minimum 91, try for 93/94 octane if I can. All guys ever say is that it blew up. Love to know the true story

I would forget the true stories as those are difficult to come by. You can do it locally, but it is one case after another with no end, no merit, and no one that believes you. It is a loose-loose. Get the longest possible warranty while the OEM stills pays for fuel and storage issues.

My mountain buddys  rule of thumb is. Only ride a Summit 850 if you have warranty. If you don't? You better trade it in. LOL.

They have a knock sensor that retards the timing before damage is done with lower octane fuel; having some knowledge about knock sensor calibration; I was a skeptic when they first came out which was a number of years ago.  But I have become a believer in them over the years.  There are many sleds that have piled up high mileage on 86 octane.

There was a reason they changed the oiling on the crankcase for the 2019 model which they did not explain well; but I am sure it had to do with connecting rod bearing oil capacity.  But who really knows, they are not going to tell us.

Without direct warranty data and examination of the failed parts, none of us will ever really know the answers.   And failures on this engine are considerably fewer than the 800R when it came out in the Summit in 2007.

I suspect the piston failures of which there have been a few are due to injector failure due to actual injector issues or wiring/connector issues.

But when it comes down to it, we are all just spinning our wheels and flapping our gums and our finger tips....   Because your have to have the data to do the parato charts to array the issues.   And we don't have the actual data.  We see a couple of incidents which may or may not have factual details.

But hay maybe you are right..    I know I typically always use rec fuel with no alcohol and mix a bit of 110 race gas with it just to make sure I have good octane as I don't want the spark retarding and I don't want to get ahold of gas with water in it.

We just don't know.

It sounds like revision history of the 2006 Summit RT which earned the reputation that would follow until its death.

I don't get why BRP are not addressing the 850. I don't mean in general, but address them one by one. There won't be that many once the common stuff is screened out.
