21 Expy 900 turbo SE. How do you access the fill plug?

It seems like I have to pull the muffler because I have an SE and there is no way to access the plug. How do you remove the muffler? Do I have to take the top of the sled off because it will not come out the opening?

I think you do have to take off the top. It's six screws.. not too hard and something we all should know owning these machines. The airbox removal might be different than this example, but it's the basic idea.

Mine is not a turbo, but I just squeezed the oil into the check oil plug until it came out. Otherwise it looks like a lot of work to just add oil to the supposedly proper fill plug.

Buy one of those pumps that screws onto a quart bottle and it’s really easy to fill through the fill port.

Added on edit, didn’t click SUV’s link. That’s what I’m saying as well.

That's what I used to pump the gear oil in but I put the oil in the fill plug and how I got that out was with a long 3/8  SAE ball-hex key it will give you the angle you need to take the plug out....I did put a rag under the fill plug before I took it out in case I lost the plug...It worked perfectly...When I put the plug back I put teflon tape on the plug be fore I put it back.

Thanks everyone for their input. I dont believe that you can access the fill plug on my SE because the air compressor blocks it so you cant come in at an angle. So you must move the muffler which I did without taking the top off. It wasn't easy. I bought the Doo oil at the dealer and I didn't use my gear oil hand pump because I didn't want to mix oils. Also, the Doo oil is just exactly enough and the pump will not empty the bottle. After making a mess trying to squeeze it in by hand I got "edit for bad language" and bought a bottle of Valvoline full synthetic 75/140 and pumped it in using my pump. I will never use the Doo oil again. It just makes me crazy that on an otherwise great machine I have to tear the sled all apart just to put oil in the darn chaincase!

The thing about filling it through the oil level screw would be over filling it...Its really not to bad filling through the fill plug with one those pumps.

The oil pump is the easy part. The difficult part is getting the fill plug in and out on a machine that has the air compressor beside/behind the muffler.

I wonder if it would be possible to screw a 90deg elbow permanently into the chaincase fill plug hole and aim it up so you can get at it without tearing the sled all apart?

Sure why not if you can find the right fittings. Also filling through the oil level screw hole sounds easier than using the fill hole on the ones with the compressor in the way. I never saw one of those ball head hex wrenches........interesting.

That's how i did it with our le, same lucas oil, same hose everything
