Look for a rev or XP with the 600sdi or 500ss, bulletproof (600sdi was only in xp chassis in 08). I know prices are crazy now but if you can wait it out I have a feeling a ton of used sleds for reasonable prices will show up in the next month due to this suck "edit for bad language" winter.

If you can wait, buy in the spring. Discount sleds, people that don't want to store them and the season is over, so there are fewer buyers.

had a 2008 800 shorty that I bought new. In 2008 I put 4,000 mi on it. Secondary clutch roller bolt head broke off and took out both clutches. Also the secondary tower was pulling through the tunnel. First year should have known better well it was warrantied. Roller bolts were updated due to design defects. Secondary clutch tower got a reinforcement patch put under the mounting bolt in the tunnel, skidoo had a kit to repair it so it was also a design failure. Motor ran to 8,000 mi no problem. Compression always 150 150. I wouldn't touch an 800 motor with anything less.

Wiexpress,

What model years in 600 and 500ss?  I see Smurfy71 has two sled of exactly what you mentioned to buy!

Depends on what length your looking for. A tnt in the xp chassis is a light fun sled with the 500ss. The 600 etec came out in 09 so 600 sdi went bye bye. But the carb 500ss is bullet proof. If a renegade is what you want the sport carb will have the same 500ss /600 carb motor. In the Rev chassis look for a 06 or 07 with 600sdi.

Strange why ask for opinions only to ignore and go back to look again? I wish you well, just factor in the price of a new short block plus labor with it.
For me to buy a 2008 800 it would have to be bottom barrel cheap AF, so when it blows I could part it out and get my money back. Otherwise it's a lose lose.

Wiexpress,

What model years in 600 and 500ss?  I see Smurfy71 has two sled of exactly what you mentioned to buy!

These are both great sleds, the 500SS had a top end before I purchased it from a buddy. Other than new reed boots this season, I haven't touched it.

The SDI was a wreck when I bought it, but I knew it and got it for the right price.  The SDI needed a new nun, and had some motor issues.  I fixed everything, with plenty of help from this forum.  Last fall it got a new crank, at 26,000 km (16,000 miles) and it still runs great.  The chassis is starting to show some wear.

In your price range you should be able to get into a 2009+ 600 SDi or etec in a Renegade.  If the winters here were better, I'd be doing this myself.

The SDI within a month of purchasing it, looked like this.
