Hey guys, Got a XM thats acting odd, When you go full throttle it used to do it once where it wouldn't do it smoothly, kind of like a quick rev limiter bounce down around ~7200 rpm ish, then it would very quickly recover and go full out to  8k rpm. Now it does it 2-3-4 times depending, I don't see it revving out.... stock springs and we had the clickers down where she was only pulling 7600 rpm and it made no difference, still did it. It literally seems like a intermittent rev limiter, it hits it/ bounces down off it for a sec and does it again then itll eventually settle just fine.  Not seeing on the tach it going high.

I agree that from your description I would check for a frayed electrical wire or dirty guillotine.

Its a 2014 ski doo xm 800 ETEC. And as best we can tell no frayed wires. We inspected the valve diaphrams and made sure they are free and they are certainly free, didn't remove them completely just the tops, The hoses are good with no air leaks. Wonder if it needs a calibration but I called a local shop that has the candoo software and figured it uses a calibration code, So I'm thinking its not actually calibrating the set valve position as much as just the hardware thats been installed there for probably a waste of money to have it "re" calibated? 

I agree that from your description I would check for a frayed electrical wire or dirty guillotine.

Start with a compression check. Then install new spark plugs.

 

Pull reeds out and look for chipped corners or cracked petals. 

 

If above is healthy... i would add 1 to 2 gram of pin weight and see if it goes away. If the etec does not have enough load it will do this. Adjusting clickers down won't load it enough on the bottom and mid.

We did replace the clutch springs with oem ones for the sled, exact same as we took out,  but clutching is in good shape, and It did seem like its amplified this issue, When the clitckers were at 1 it wouldn't pull more than 7400 rpm but it still did this issue. It's my dad's sled so I'm trying to help figure out some info for him, I don't know why it would be doing it with oem/same springs. It does seem like it wants to rev quick, maybe have to watch the Tach to see if its popping up to 8 before it cuts out for the moment...

The 800 r etec do not like rapid engine acceleration. Meaning to light on the pin weight.

A new primary spring will enhance the rapid engine acceleration. I would add some pin weight to load the motor and see if this issue disappears.

It's a OEM doo belt, been running it for a few years now haha. probably only 1k km on it.

in theory We shouldn't be touching  or need to adjust the primary weights. if everything is OEM/stock which it is....., It was direct replacement springs compared to what was in there. just "freshened" it up since they were a good ~6-7 year old springs.

I copied a couple things below that I was looking at. Note how quickly it looses power and recovers, or swings between 7-8K. There isn't much that can do this. Fuel will cut out, and clutching doesn't recover. I think a string from eRAVE rack should be rigged to a pedal  lol

 

Look for engine light. Do you still have a CanDoo?
 
I'm not too clear on the second line, but I think it no longer recovers long enough to reach 8000 rpm?

Yeah it had the engine light on p0178 exhaust valve not opening, hard to find the code googling! More common was the valve not closing. We couldn't get it to code yet this winter but it's acting up, it used to cut out once but we never thought much of it as it always went but now it's bad. Sorry for delayed replies lol been busy and it's my dad's sled so I'm trying to dig some ideas up for him.
