Hey people,

I was wondering if a summit 800r ptek 2014 with less than 3000km worth 4200$ is a good first sled? I want to do some trail but also off trail. Sometimes I'll be riding two people on it also. My father keeps telling me to buy a 4 stroke because I'm no mechanic. There is also an expedition 900 ace with 6000 km worth 7995$ at a retailer. I would rather go with the lower budget but is the summit good for me.. What do you guys think?

Need to know where you plan to ride it and what you want to do with it to say if it’s a good sled for you.

Well I'll ride it in registered trails for most of the time. And sometimes I'll be riding off trails to have some fun. But most off the time it would definetly be in registered trails.

Well I wouldn't personally wouldn't want to ride a summit two up because of the narrow ski stance but maybe others here will disagree.  Summit also really wont be great for trail riding.  If those are your only options I would go with the expedition.  It will be much more versatile.  I would suggest looking for a crossover like a Renegade or a Backcountry or even a 137 GSX.  Expedition will work too but is generally more geared towards utility.

Four stroke would definitely have better long term reliability.

I agree with stevo. Look for a Renegade, maybe a Renegade sport carb. It can go off trail, not like a Summit but it can. Ride it for a year or 2 and see what kinds of riding you actually doo. If it’s more off trail then look for a nicer backcountry or summit if it’s more on trail trade up for an etec Renegade. I doubt you would ever be happy with an Expedition.

You can also look for a Renegade 4 stroke if you’re sold on 4 stroke. You can always add the 2up seat to a gade.

depends on how the expy is set up too.   Which track it has, whether or not it comes with the 2 up seat.

Very capable machine and will ride very well on the trails, specially doing 2-up.

If I had to buy a first sled, I'd get a low mile Renegade 137 inch 600 carb sport, then throw a 2 up linq seat on the back.
