2017 850 with 2000 miles. Never abused or ridden extremely hard. Crankshaft sheared right off.

Anyone see this?

To me it looks like a defect in the crank. Do you think skidoo will cover it as its out of warranty.

First thing they will ask is if the clutch has ever been removed. take to dealer and see what they say. that really sucks.

My buddy bought it used with less than 1000 miles. I doubt the clutch was ever off by the previous owner and I know my buddy never had it off.

All stock ramps in the clutch and the BRP sticker is still over the bolts on the dampener. So that has never been off.

Did you buy the sled new? When was warranty up? Do you know if the motor locked up at all? What speed/rpm were you running when it broke?

From the radiating pattern on the fracture, it looks like it started at 12' o clock in the last image.

This is usually from a bending or flexing stress, not twisting or torsional.

Was there a vibration or has the primary clutch been apart or damaged?

Doubt it will be covered.

Wouldn't hurt to send your clutch out to check the balance.

Also, a 2017 with 2000 miles, maybe hook the sled up to BUDs or Candoo and see how many hours are on it... Looks a bit dirty and beat up for 2000 miles?

I dont believe the primary was ever apart.

Running maybe 30mph when it happened.

Sled was bought used with less than 1000 miles.

Motor is free and not locked up.

No vibrations as I've ridden it and i have a 2018 850 and would know if I felt anything.

Sled has not been abused in anyway.

Sticker still on clutch so it has not been apart.

Im with you smg. From the pics it appears defective. From 11 oclock around to 7 that area is smooth and appears dirty in the pic and almost rusty ?? The remainder from 7 to 11 appears clean and has a granular structure.

Original owner I think they might cover it.  Bought used... I'm thinking its gonna be a battle.  Looks like it's blown a belt before, the rust on the seal retainer plate and being able to see the bearings through the seal is not a good sign!

I believe you can see the bearing and race behind the cover. To me it looks like it is out of round. My guess is the bearing was bad and allowed the primary to wobble putting excessive stress and flex on the crank at the point of the primary until it let go.

That really sucks....  I'd bet they won't cover it but have no idea.  You'll probably be into it with a motor replacement for what it would have cost to buy a new one from the start.  That really blows but the gamble in buying used with no warranty. :(
