I have a 1998 Grand Touring 500 liquid cooled and would appreciate knowing what track lug size will fit in the tunnel, trying to replace the track now, was told a 1-1/2" lug track would swap in no problem.

Have searched for info and found different stories on different similar machines - some even saying they've put 1.75 " lugs under... find that hard to believe looking at it here myself without major mods...

I would really appreciate anyones experiences with changing tracks and how it affects the performance ride etc.

has anyone changed the drivers to smaller size ?

which work well?

how much clearance is needed up front in the drive shaft area ?

is it ok to drop the wheels in the tunnel down a half inch or so?

Spend no time riding on trails, mostly lake and back country powder.

Thanks very much in advance

Cool got er done, thanks for the old info on the forum - checked out some old posts...
Dropped the Center wheels an inch, should just take em out they don’t really do anything now
WHAT A MONSTER IN THE POWDER AND BREAKING TRAIL NOW, crazy difference, with the new wider skis and 1.6 paddle it’s a new machine
Hope this helps someone else who’s contemplating
I’m calling this a success and money well spent
Cheers all

I have the 583, same year, model. What did you end up getting for ski's, track, etc? I'm going to need to do the same thing soon.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Kind of an older post.  He may not be around for awhile.

Sounds like he put an Ice Cobra 1.6 in it and mounted some wider skis.  Maybe 6.9s like these... https://minneapolis....7174247650.html

These 2 things will make it a new sled for sure.
