ok, well someone had to start this.

Doesn't look to be a big showing for WT's this year, only looks to be 3 Expy Extremes running this year.

It looks to be close to 80 of the sleds running are BRP (Skidoo and Lynx), and of those over 50 are Backcountry, mostly XRS.

Of the other manufacturers  12 AC, 6 Yamaha and 2 Polaris. That is some real dominance from BRP.

With those numbers, if you are buying a new sled for the race, why would you be on anything but a 154 BC XRS?

Has there ever been a non Skidoo team win?

Unless a lot of snow comes in the next month, is it likely to be a fast race or more carnage from hitting things?

How are ice conditions?

Didn't a team win one year with VKpro's?  I don't follow very closely.

Skandic 380, 2007 800 Summit Adrenaline, 2015 800 ETEC Summit X, 2015 600 ETEC Expedition SE.............I used to ride Yamaha but after they got in bed with Arctic Cat they lost reliability and that was the only good trait they had going for them!

It's amazing that Polaris doesn't have more sleds in the race, as they are the second biggest manufacturer, and in theory have several models that would be well suited to the race.

Ice conditions are very poor on the coast. I'm still expecting race officials to have out a mandatory track for people to follow, as many of the gps tracks that people would be using cross open water or unsafe ice this year.

Reliability is key in this race. Polaris and AC haven't shown the reliability in this race in the past. Yamaha doesn't have a light 2 stroke that these racers like when riding in the back country in Labrador. Interesting the defending champions have ditched the Ski Doo Free ride in favor of the 850 Expedition Extreme.

I thought so too but their profile shows both are running the 2020 Backcountry XRS?

Where did the rumour they were running Extremes come from?

I wouldn't characterize Team 22 as "the defending champs". It's more of a new team made up of two previous winners. It's going to be a different dynamic with them this year.

I see two teams running Extremes, neither of which promise to be very competitive. Team 27 is a rookie team from the island. Team 36 is a veteran team, but their goal is crossing the finish line, in any place they can. And in all honesty, they're not likely to do that.

CQ website had shown Team 22 running Extremes.

I was really interested to see how they would have held up with them running them in race mode.

With the lack of snow they must have changed their strategy.

NB

Do you think more teams will just use the old TLT up to Black Tickle or Cartwright to avoid poor ice / open water?

I am planning to run from Lanse au Clair to Cartwright just after the race, I wouldn't mind having trail broke the whole way.

I did see CQ has made the groomed trail from Valley Bay in to Rigolet mandatory, so making more routes mandatory is something they are doing.

I would think that based on this years conditions they decided that skinny tracks sleds were the way to go, and they have the resources to make that switch without problem.

Oh, that's almost a guarantee. Last I heard, everything from Norman's Bay north is unsafe for travel this year, so if that doesn't change soon, everyone will be heading inland.
