I've got an 03 Rev 600HO that I had removed the engine to replace the crank seals (one popped out) Well anyway, I got it together and if I start it without the airbox on it runs and idles great but once I put the air box on it will start hard and when it does its like running on one cylinder and will backfire if I tap the throttle. I also noticed that if I move the air box while its running it will change the idle speed. I did pull the carbs back off and look at the boots but didn't see any cracks or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Spray some carb cleaner around the boots when it's running , it'll let you know if there is any cracks in your carb boots by a change in the idle . Also you could pull the carbs and remove the complete boots and check out the condition of the reeds. Chipped or cracked reeds will affect engine performance.

You sure nothing is blocking/clogging the airbox? Did you clean the carbs well they were off?

The air box is clear and no I did nothing with the carbs while the engine was out except to remove the jet cap to check for debris, I will try the carb clearer thing tomorrow to see what that does. thanks

Thanks for the carb spray idea I did find some cracks on the bottom of the boot near the flange. Looks like time for new reeds
