It was the dealer who was going to try a new ECM and VRR because they couldn't connect with their BUDS. Had the OP been near me I would have gone to the dealer and let them try my CanDoo before ordering a new $1,000 ECM. In this case I have nothing to do with the repair or choice of parts. I just gave him my thoughts on how to cut the cord if he chose to since a situation like this can degenerate quickly and end a relationship with a dealer.

For the Isoflex, that would be a good idea had the engine not been a new OEM shortblock.

For the VRR, before replacing it I would have measured the voltage at the battery, fuses, relays. Since BUDS wasn't connecting I would have also measured the voltage at the BUDS Diagnostic Connector. Once you have the key points to measure the voltage it becomes quite easy to diagnose like the 800 ETEC we had on the Rev forum this past season that wasn't charging the battery. In less than one page the owner had traced the failed relay with his multimeter. So far, everyone from DooTalk that I have either met or spoken to were more than capable of troubleshooting the electrical on their sled. In most cases you either measure enough voltage or you don't. In a real example the input of the Run Relay was showing battery voltage while the output measured 5 Vdc. There is one advantage we hold over the dealers. We have a Power Distribution diagram similar to what BRP provided for the ETECs, and it shows the two Wake-Up circuits.

I just realized that I forgot to thank Codooster for the phone call yesterday. Both he and Daag took time out of their busy day to speak with me and offer advice.

I'll be heading to the dealer this afternoon. I'll keep you posted on what transpires.....

Dave it was a pleasure. Remember to keep it cool and it might hit a sore spot. I don't know of any tech who would be happy giving a non working sled back to the owner. Keep your cool and focus on the budget aspect of a 12 year old sled. Situations like these are a recipe for a heated debate that won't benefit anyone.

Note that it will void the warranty of the new OEM shortblock. So this needs to be a conscious decision. Who knows, they may decide to work a reasonable arrangement that everyone wins. The only two parties that should be involved currently is you and your dealer.

From my perspective you have agreed to $3,200 for the removal, installation and to get it working properly. Give yourself an amount that you are ready to bargain to complete the repairs and the rest will be at their expense. This way you give yourself and your dealer a way to continue or gracefully cut the cord. For example $400 (an amount that you mentioned previously) would be the maximum I would give for a total of $3,600 , but only if they get it working properly. This is just an example to give you an idea of the possibilities.

Thanks. If you happen to know which BUDS version they need, please let me know. That might just solve the whole puzzle. They are running BUDS 3.3.0 and said that's what's needed for 2007 and earlier models.

I don't think I could do that. I'd at least like to have it for parts for my wife's 'gade.

I'll let them know.

Feel free to mention DooTalk and their resources that span the various dealers across the USA and CAN, and more importantly that they have access to a forum on their Dealer Network ;)

They are no different then the rest of us when it comes to forums. Not everyone has the courage or takes the time to post on an open forum, which goes for both DooTalk and the BRP Dealer Network. A certification is indeed real cool, but you need the experience to back it up.

Some dealers actually doo use DooTalk, but keep that between us

I hesitate to tell the entire story from this afternoon’s visit to the dealer. For those of you who are invested in my saga, you can shoot me a pm.

I will be picking up my sled and taking it to Codooster’s to plug into his CanDoo.

I was very respectful with the tech, but he did start to sound a little irritated when I disagreed with his contention that “someone added a battery to that sled”.

All SDIs require a battery. The pull start models have a small battery and a capacitor. The E-start sleds have the bigger battery. I own one of each.

My sled will be leaving this service department.

I haven't heard the story yet but I think you did good and pulled it off. It's like ripping a band-aid...

I would suggest to give it some time before recounting your story, but my gut tells me that it will happen sooner than later...

If it helps, by the time you posted this thread I believe you had already reached a level of disappointment in this whole affair and reached out for some help in a divorce.

Welcome to the SDI Support Group ;)

The outcome of your "saga" is not surprising.
If you think of it let us know what you find with the CanDoo program, good move on removing your sled from this particular dealership.

This isn't the same dealer you're buying your new ones from is it?

The outcome of your "saga" is not surprising.
If you think of it let us know what you find with the CanDoo program, good move on removing your sled from this particular dealership.

This isn't the same dealer you're buying your new ones from is it?

Unfortunately it is. I might try to get my order moved to another dealership.

Harbor Freight is my Sponsor.
