I don't understand the parking brake theory. Parking brakes on new sleds are powerful.
What kind of moron could possibly ride away and not feel that drag?

And what's he doing on an 850 with obviously no active brain cells?

Hey, we have hard enough time getting our $ back after breakdowns. Lets first blame BRP.    If its the brake left on let them dig through the ashes and prove it.

My 09 Gade 1200 started on fire 57 miles from the cabin. No parking break involved at all. It blew the side panels open and the hood off. I baled at that point and let it stop in the tree's. Skidoo did absolutly nothing, my insurance covered all but 200.00 of my purchase price so I bought a 2011 Gade 1200 and still have it to this day. While mine didn't burn to the ground as I got the fire put out, I find in interesting that the broken plastic fuel fitting that I found broken behind the muffler was no longer used on my 2011 Gade, the line is just caped off. For the nay sayers I have enclosed a pic of my capped off line on my 2011. It still burns my "edit for bad language" today that Doo washed their hands of it.IMG_0201_zpsjssjouxo.jpg

The earlier 1200 4-TEC used the same wonky fuel system as the 2-TECs. The old setup had a return hose for the external fuel pressure regulator while the new pump had the regulator integrated with the assembly. I guess they used-up the old type hose supplies and capped the return hose. Sounds like a needless failure point.

My 2013 MXZ burnt due to a fuel leak with 100 miles or so on it.  BRP did nothing, they said make an insurance claim.  A week later I received a recall letter in the mail saying stop driving your snowmobile immediately because it could catch fire.  So my dealer reached out to BRP a second time, once again, they said sorry, proceed with your insurance claim.  I was not impressed!!!  I did get them to cover the cost of the accessories I lost in the fire, but still, pretty sad I'd say. I should add I was also unknowingly covered in gas so this situation could of been a lot worse. I'd attach pictures but the 200kb limit on this site is a PITA!

That may explain the later changes in the fuel system lines. That one had me puzzled.

Update: August 16th, 2020
MY2009-2010 had a plastic fuel fitting that could brake and spray fuel onto the muffler and cause a fire.

MY2011 had the fuel system change to incorporate the fuel pressure regulator into the fuel sump/surge tank. The problem is that BRP were still using the fuel line assembly from MY2009-2010 with a return line that was no longer used and needed to be capped. This capping was also a poor failure point. If it let go then it could also spray fuel directly on the hot muffler and cause a fire. I don't know of any MY2011 that did, nor how many MY2011 were done this way, but nonetheless a fuel line should never remain capped.

Below is a copy of 470's capped fuel line from BRP on his MY2011 (MY = Model Year).  You never know when those Photobucket pictures will disappear.... and this is the only one I have seen on DooTalk.

I don't understand the parking brake theory. Parking brakes on new sleds are powerful.

What kind of moron could possibly ride away and not feel that drag?

Rookies or renters, sleds have way more power than the parking brake has stopping power.

At minimum 2 per season burn to the ground here each season.  I was a tour guide for several years and had a very near miss one night with a young kid who rode with his finger on the brake (MX racer was his excuse).  I stopped at an intersection and while I was walking back to check each of my clients, I caught a glimpse of the glowing red brake rotor of the kid at the rear....i'm talking almost molten metal bright orange......I politely let him know he almost bought himself a pile of burnt plastic and aluminum and to take the finger off the brake lever.

30+ years of steamfitting will do that.  :smile_old:

When I picked up the new 11 Gade, the first thing I did was look for that plastic barb 90ยบ that failed. I was going to replace it with a brass one so the same thing wouldn't happen again. Unfortunately it happened in 2010 when the economy was tanking. The insurance company said people were starting stuff on fire just to get out of the loans and my case would be researched throughly. That was an understatement to say the least, I wouldn't want to go through it again.
