Like the XM, BRP should have put prefilter material in the vent kit, rather than screen.  With cold blower powder, snow goes straight through the screen, hits the exhaust, melts and then forms a huge ice block at the steering post.  Its no wonder we are failing boots. The whole setup is a mess.

Ski-Doo and Lynx owners over here are experiencing exactly the same thing right now. We have currently got a really dry, cold and fine powder that goes straight through the massive screens at the front.

For a moment I thought I found the solution in BRP's accessory part number 860201224. The BRP accessory catalogue over here says this is a "snow filter kit that stops snow from entering the engine compartment". Sounds perfect, so I ordered this accessory part number - only to find out the accessory catalogue was talking BS. This accessory part number is exactly the same screens WITHOUT pre-filter mesh that I have already got as standard equipment...

What the heck is up with this...? The BRP accessory kit for the XM / Lynx REX-2 used to contain pre-filter mesh, but the kit for the Gen 4 does not and it is exactly the same kit that is already installed as standard equipment...???

I guess the only solution is to go for a proper aftermarket vent kit WITH pre-filter mesh. Any suggestions...?

Hoping a set of inner boots may help.
I’d rather have steering if needed....

Did you just pull your boots thru - turning them into “inner boots”?

blew another boot yesterday, cold temps and dry powder. Front grill is all prefiltered so nothing getting through there, even used some gorilla tape on the front of the hood to hold it down. To me it looks like snow is also getting in on the sides of the hood, I love this sled but the hood design is very poor, its too flexible and easily lifts up to allow snow in. Next time out guess I will tape the sides down as well and see how that works

Hey DBP.

Prefiltered with the BRP kit or Xtreme air vents?  I glued prefilter (the real mccoy stuff) on top of the BRP grille vent kit, and nothing getting in.

The other thing I did was put a plate in the forward bulkhead to close off the hole and stop the ice/snow from moving back towards the steering system.

BTW..if ur wondering...the rope is there to put on the impossible exhaust spring  :laugh_old:  :laugh_old:  :laugh_old: .  If you've taken off the pipe..... you'll know what I mean LOL.

OTM

I have prefilter with the xtreme air vent. Great idea on the block off plate, gonna try that. Actually with the spring remover(long one from doo) takes about 2 seconds per spring to take off or put back in. Heading out again wed and thurs

Popped off my original screens and with some prefilter material and hot glue dabs problem solved. Looks stock from the outside and stops the powder from going through

You could try the front grill vents off the MXZ 600 race sled .
I just bought a set , they have the pet screen style mesh and the fine intake mesh sandwiched together .
I have not tried it yet but hope to in the next couple of days
