They look like they are giving birth just prior to blowing apart. Think we need to find another location to let water out.

Has anyone had any problems with the boots failing where they are connected to the s module? Rode all day in some light, fluffy snow yesterday and by the end I had lost steering and both boots were ruptured. Had another 850 in our group as well with the same problem (Pre filter on front grill, mine without). BRP has agreed to warranty both boots, but still its a nuisance.

Yep, happened to me.  Locked my steering right up.  And I have a skid plate.

When i put the new bulkhead on, I put the 2018 updated boots on and has been fine so far this season on 5 weekend of riding but I have only been in hood deep snow a handful of times.  So far this season the snow has been like mashed potatoes and clogs up the grille.  Later on in the season when the snow gets less heavy, I think the snow will come through the front grille and then again, back down into those boots and make steering difficult.

seems like maybe, just maybe on a mountain sled thats designed to be in powder.....perhaps its not the best idea to have a snow gulping hole in the front... I mean its not a trail sled... sooo.... thats one thing I'll give to cat getting right.

Well, one of mine is shot....clutch side.  Having a can may keep the RHS boot liquid....and maybe the lower clutch temps are not providing enough heat on the LHS to keep that boot free.....LOL

I have the prefilter kit installed although as stated in earlier post....the new ones don't have the prefilter material so snow still gets in. It's a stupid design because without prefilter material,  the front vents totally freeze over and glue to the screen rendering them useless.

I think in my case it was 3 days of riding without thawing the sled out that led to the ice overload/boot failure

Does anyone know if the 18's have a different PN for the boots????

Just checked BRP Parts....looks like the 2017 boot has been replaced with a new PN....presumably the '18 boot.....so I guess they have been updated.  Only problem is BRP Parts website is acting up again and I can't see the 18 schematic's to see what else has changed....

New PN is 506153037

2018 boots have 5 rivets instead of 4. they added one on the bottom end of boot.

Cats kinda just blow in general. But at least they didnt put a snow scoop in the front of their mountain sled. lol

Is the boot material any thicker?  The 2017 boot rubber is paper.  Junk.

You think they might of remembered these problems from the rev. It’s not like this is a new revolutionary design.

So I've ordered the 2018 boots as mine are now fully destroyed.  -20C and 5 feet of snow do not go well with the G4 steering.  By the end of the ride today, my steering was basically seized.  A 10 lb block of ice under the pipe.

Like the XM, BRP should have put prefilter material in the vent kit, rather than screen.  With cold blower powder, snow goes straight through the screen, hits the exhaust, melts and then forms a huge ice block at the steering post.  Its no wonder we are failing boots.

The whole setup is a mess.  I can't figure out whether to completely block off the front vents as they are frozen over most of the time anyway.  Won't be easy to put prefilter material in there..

I just pulled my hood tonight chipped iced used the shop vac to get the majority out then stuck a heat gun down there to melt the rest. Easy 10 lbs and my steering was greatly limited in overall travel and very difficult to turn by the end of my last ride. I ended up installing xtreme vents kit, good quality and easy to install, much stronger than the brp kit, at half the price. The rivets they include are crazy strong, actually busted my cheapo rivet gun. How skidoo has not done something about this is crazy to me it's s lawsuit waiting to happen, not being able to steer is a issue

Thanks Mesupra

I didn't realize xtreme vents had a grille kit....Ordering it asap.

For those who are considering buying the BRP G4 grille kit.....DON'T....if powder riding at cold temps (below -10c).  The window screen material in their setup is useless to prevent so ingestion and damages too easily.  For BRP's grille kit to work you are going to have to add prefilter material like I did.  As you can see in the picture... it's rough ....but hopefully effective.  Amazing Goop Marine is great stuff so with any luck it can can hold the whole mess together
