Iron Mounta/Michigamme Area question

16 May 2013 - 08:28 AM

I know this is not really sled related, but we have a cabin about 45 miles NW of Iron Mountain, MI and we just found out that our chimney has fallen down this spring from snow sliding off the roof.

We use this place for riding in the winter, hunting in November and just to hang out in during the summer.

My question is this, does anyone know a cement mason in the area that is reasonably priced to put up a new chimney and pipe?  Brother and I are tossing around the idea of doing it ourselves, but neither of us have put up a chimney before and are pretty handy, but it is a chimney...

Thanks for you help guys!

800r BCX First Ride

28 January 2013 - 08:46 AM

Hey guys,

Got my first real ride in over the weekend, about 115 miles or so, trails were a mix of everything, studder bumps, big bumps, smooth in spots, icy, good snow in other areas, etc.

I did not change any settings from when I picked it up from the dearer, but after about 15 miles I started making changes.  Front shocks were preset to 1, and on clicker 3, changed this to 3 for rebound and clicker to 7.

Torsion springs were on 1 when started, changed them to 3 after 60 miles, you could tell they softened up...while on 3, seemed much better

Coupler blocks were always set on 2, never changed those

Read ski adj knobs, thik it was on like 4 from the dealer, changed it to 12 after about 30 miles.

Bottomed out twice before lunch, after lunch, no more with changing torsion setting, etc.

Great sled, has great hookup, handles well, could use a little more ski pressure which I will play with this weekend, but wow.  Came off a 600 carb TNT and I have to say you can really feel the Rave's open up at about 7000 rpm.

had two or three mis-fires, hickups, or whatever you want to call them.

The giggle factor is unreal, you can be cruising at about 60 mph and just hit it for a couple seconds and feel the skis pull up and the sled just pulls away!  Talk about a big smile on your face, and it pulls hard all the way through.  I mean, I never ran it all the up to see what it could do, i let off at about 93 or sooner, but it would pull hard all the way through that, it was great!

Just my impressions and thoughts, hope others are having a great experience with their new BCX.  I have serial # 008 btw, just a fun fact, wonder who has #001?

One thing I can see happening with the BCX is I will need to do Ian's "update" at the end of the season, I think the springs will get too soft and the shocks will need to be re-valved to match the new springs, but for now I will ride it as is and try to get the break in mode completed  :)  What a fun sled!

Hanging Idle 08 TNT

11 January 2013 - 08:39 AM

Hey guys,

I have searched on here about this, but did not find the answer I was looking for.

I have a 2008 TNT 500ss with the following done to it:

Cudney head
cudney clutch kit
SPI pipe - new this fall
HPS Can
Needles shimmed .020 (SPI said to due this for the pipe) new this fall
Boyesen reed cages and reeds new this fall
400 main jets (spi said to use either 380 or 400, I went fat) new this fall
fuel screw turned out 1 and 1/2 turns
new SPI y-pipe new this fall
1.75": camoplast XC Pro New This fall

I have a hanging idle.  I have noticed this in snow conditions and on the stand.  I went through the sled this fall with rebuilt shocks, new idles, new track etc put it back together, let it warm up on the stand and ran it for a minute to make sure everything turned smoothly etc.  I would wind it up to about 8g's on the tach for a second and then let off and it would come back down to around 3100 and then i would have to blip the throttle a few times to get it to come down any further.  Without a wide open fun it still hang's a little bit, 2800-3000 or so.

I check the carb boots, they look fine, no holes, no bubbles, etc.

Should I just turn the fuel screw out another 1/2 and see what it does, drop to 380 mains?  420 mains?

Prior to adding the few items this fall, i had a hanging idle previously.  Last year I played around with it but could not get it right.  I adjusted the fuel screw out to about 2.5 turns out and that made it better, but at 1.5 turns out the idle was hanging around 3600, so this year it is lower to start with.

Could my carb slides be worn that much to cause it but only after a WOT run?

Sled has about 6000 miles on it, it is my spare sled/ditch banging sled/beat the crap out of it sled/backup so it wont see too much use but I would like to keep it for a few more years just to play with...

thoughts?

2013 BCX 800 Etec Belt

03 December 2012 - 09:12 AM

Hey guys,

Just a quick question, looked through the manual and could not find anything, looking to pick up a spare belt for the BCX, any idea what belt to run? The sled is not at my house, it is a few hours away right now so i just cannot go outside and look. Talked to my dealer and they thought it was a 383, but thinking is not what I want, i want to know for sure before I spend $100+ on a spare belt.

Thank you

Nelson's Speed Shop

30 September 2012 - 11:16 AM

Hey guys,

As most know, Nelson's speed shop burned down earlier this summer, but are planning to re-build.

If you spring check a sled from Nelson's I would contact their sales department just to ensure that they have your correct contact information, invoices, etc.  I sent them an email last week and my sales guy Don gave me a call and asked that I fax over to him the invoice showing my order because in the fire they lost most records and contact information for their clients.

I would just do this to ensure you get on-time delivery of your new machine since BRP puts a 15 day rule on the rebates.

Just a thought
