The major difference between those two sleds is ski width and coupled vs un-coupled suspension.  The Summit is more of an off trail powder sled with the narrow ski stance and un-coupled suspension.  The FR is more for rough boondocking, terrain riding and jumping.  It has the mid width ski stance and coupled suspension, it's also 35 lbs heavier with the added bracing and supports.

Freeride - powder capable with attitude (snowcross chassis with mountain hardwear)

Summit - powder/steeps with finesse and ease, trail riding is not its forte

ID,

I understand the differences and like both. I have spent some time on the FR last year and also a buddies XM this year. Been everywhere but Turny. However I am having trouble deciding.   Both handle great.  I like the Summit narrow stance, but I was also able to ride the FR just as easy. I have gotten a lot better the last three years and I am ready to move up. Not a high marker or huge drop person, but I am jumping, tree riding, and swamp banging. Being up here which one would you suggest? Only trail I do is to get to the better snow up until we received a good drop. Thanks for the input.

Can't friday, but have a group going down Sat AM, then over night in Seward and Sunday again. Was going to take Primrose Trail since Firehouse seems impassable right now. Let me know how it was or if you want to meet up Sat.
