Some pretty sweet pics among the bunch so far at that gallery link.  Going to be hard to pick just 12 Craig.

I'll leave this one here since it's not exactly calendar material... but it's really comin' down now!     :frosty:

In Topic: 800 ETEC RAVE Valve cleaning.

You could GJ but they may not sync back up correctly or with expected sled performance on reassembly. The housings of each disassemble from the link bar as you know. Ultimately, they sync back to spec when seated in place (their correct and expected positions) with the bar in place + BUDS diagnostics to provide/tune for the most consistent engine operation.

The full procedure is in the 2011 shop manual, p/n 219100457 (covers REV XP/XR - 600, 600 HO ETEC, 800R PowerTEK and 800R E-TEC models) but you'd want to have a dealer optimize its settings in BUDS on reassembly (especially since fault codes I posted previously are based off of known and precise positions of RAVE valves). The toughest part of the process if you doo tackle this yourself can be just taking care not to damage the RAVE valve piston itself as pictured (keeping it from turning/breaking):

I have one apart on the bench so you/others can see from a better angle:

My experience on reassembly is that they may not all go back into the expected position(s) perfectly... by this I mean the min/mid/max positions (without a BUDS sync/set) so this is something you might want to just have a dealer check/set mainly because it can affect overall sled performance.

In any case, the procedure is detailed in the Ski-Doo 2011 shop manual which can be ordered from any Ski-Doo dealer or just look under the "Shopping" tab above on this page... click "TRAIL OF SHOPS" under there and you will see many DooTalk site supporters who are also Ski-Doo dealers like Rob's, Ingles, K&W, Jaycox, Dee's... and plenty more that you can call on or e-mail who can help get you the manual. Hope that is all helpful to you.

RAVE cleaning is recommended in the 2011 Op Guide as yearly or every 2000 mi as a dealer service since syncronization of RAVE position sensor is necessary after the RAVE link bar is removed. (This sync is done electronically with connection to the sled.)

That said, if a RAVE should ever have a functional issue though (due to gumming up, failure, etc.) "CHECK_ENGINE" will be displayed in the gauge along with audible repeated series of beeps, one of the following codes may be set as well:

P1477 - RAVE not reached closed position
P1476 - RAVE not reached mid positon
P1478 - RAVE not reached open position

I've attached a more detailed look at all of the RAVE components:

The new replacement pistons are a single ring design that accept the longer locating pin as in the 2012 800 E-TEC models.

Has anyone confirmed that what was stated below? If your machine is out of warranty when it hits the "magic" mileage mark (3,125 miles) and it's still prior to 2015, is it really going to still be fully covered for the required updates?

If that's truly the case, then kudos go out to DOO for doo-ing the right thing! If this is the case, then all the 2011 800etecs are basically getting a free top end job (possibly crank too) at the required mileage. It's a huge WIN for the customer if this case.

If not, and a warranty is required for the update(s) to be covered, then TBeaton is correct in saying that the mileage req't is BS! Either this is issue is a real problem, or it's not. There should be no gray area.

Thx,

YES, what you read is true. BRP is taking care of this campaign with a completion date out until 2015 and there's no warranty required to have this completed if prior to that time... and yes, it's a win for Ski-Doo customers. We all ride ourselves and know how important it is to each of you.

The comments I receive in many posts and PMs here on DooTalk along with messages to the service dept here from your dealers remind me what its like to help the best customers in the world so Thank You for all of that. :ridedoo:
