In Topic: Snowmobile sales 4 stroke impact

Comfortably riding with two is an advantage with a family.  My wife likes to drive a bit but not all the time.  My daughter is still too young to ride a sxs legally on trail.  They cost the same as a new sled but it is easier to justify.  The best part is I do not have to sit and watch the radar for weeks on end, I can just go out and ride.

Pic's of them when we picked them up a couple of weeks ago.  Still topless here but they both have hard tops installed now.

I've also got a 570 but it's the standard model.  Have you read about the air filer system problems on the 570 RZR forums?  If not check it out, I had my filter get wet/dirty because of the poor intake tube design by Polaris.

Otherwise it's a great machine, I use it for work and play.  Nice not to have the engine right beside you like other SXS.

Hope the sale works out.  In my experience bigger companies buying out a small business from the owner and/or founder often leads to disconnect with the customer.  Usually they say there will be no changes but give it a year or two.

How much is a website worth?  I have no idea.

In Topic: DOT versus Snell approved helmets

Pretty sure your right, snell testing is done for more impact points.  I believe they have a higher crush resistance too.

Which means it takes more force to crush them and when they don't crush as easily that force is transfered to your head instead of absorbed and disapated.  I can't find the study at the moment, it came out 4-5 years ago.

You should research this. A snell helmet is made to withstand multiple blows(stiffer liner), a DOT helmet made to withstand one blow(softer liner). There was a study a while back that showed a DOT helmet created less g force on your brain during an impact(because the foam liner is less stiff).

The take away is the cheaper DOT rated helmet is safer for snowmobiling because you won't likely impact your head more then once.  The DOT helmet may also be safer period depends on what study and information you look at.  Me, I buy DOT rated helmets after researching the topic.

In Topic: Ice Ripper Track same as 96 studs?

It sounds like on glare ice braking may not be as good as traditional studs?
