wiring a tach on a zx waterskipper

im setting up my zx watercross sled, so i dont have any headlights, handwarmers or anything. i wired up the tach yellow amd yellow black to the harness yellow and yellow black. the tach works at idle but when i stab the throttle it goes dead.  any ideas???

obviously they mount differently, i get that, has anyone seen an adapter kit, to fit a ptek or an 800ho in an xp chassis
