First off, for those that are'nt familier with the infamous(yea right) Rottinjonny, I have a cabin in the U.P. near Paradise, Mi. and love to snowmobile! (LOL, I feel like it's my first go around at an AA meeting). I think of myself as a snowmobiler! Not one of those guys that gos to all the shows, post thousands of post on the net but never really(for undisclosed reasons) gets a chance to snowmobile. I make no excuses, even with the last couple of winters being crap I still managed 2500 or so miles, including two trips out west. Between the wife and I there are 6 Ski-doos in my garage from revs to Xps and now this XR. (I tell all of my non snowmobiling friends it's my crack). I fancy myself as a true boon docker(when there's snow). Honestly, lately, it's been more like 50/50 with just not enough snow pack to make it great off trail, can't ride the clear cuts, swamps are'nt frozen.
Anyway, iv'e been through all the Ski-doo rigamarole from the crap rings in the 600H.Os to the rod/cranck failures in the 800s. My last 09' Renegade with 5000 miles on it, could'nt wait to get rid of that thing, tick, tock! Something just really intriged me about this 1200 and the reliability. But, even up to and including the day I picked it up, I just could not get over the weight(on paper) of these XRs. I really, truely debated a leftover 12' 800 E-tec backcountry because it fits my "style" of riding better. ( I say leftover because I'd really like to order a new XM for 14' if they finally get these Summits figured out and I was trying to be cheap about it, whole nother story) Well, I bit the bullet and bought a 2013 1200 XR Renegade Adrenaline, so here we are...
I never thought I'd like this 1200 as much as I do, can't get enough of that arm stretching torque! 1-3/4" Ripsaw and a pair of powder pros and it's not nearly as bad boon dockin' as I thought! I honestly feel it has a better sweet spot when side hilling than my XP Summit(with the updates including S-36 kit), must be the extra weight on the front end? Why they don't make this sled in a back counrty is beyond me? Can you still tell that it's 70 pounds heavier, sure, mostly when the skis are in the air and the front comes crashing down, LOL.
Granted, most of the 450 miles where far from Boon Docking, being early season riding but, so far so good. People may ask, do like the E-drive, (yes it's smooth as silk) don't know first XR, do you like the R-Motion, don't know first R-Motion, do you like the XR, YUP! Overall I really like this sled, but it's still early and we have a long season ahead. I just really hope my final impressions at the end of this season are as good as the first
and Porky(I call it Porky, not because it's fat, well at first, but because in the words of the wonderful Homer Simpson.." Ya right Lisa, one big beatiful magical animal.") and I have a long, loving relationship...
Later, Rottinjonny
P.S. No, I'm not a lunatic just trying to throw in a little Tuesday humor with my review...
